It is critical to evaluate other elements of one’s lifestyle, such as different social factors and their interdependence. Aboriginals face economic inequity in Canada, exacerbated by racism, their isolated geographic position, a lack of access to medical facilities, and food poverty.
Canada’s aboriginal people face social and health inequalities that call for legislative justice. Richmond & Cook’s (2016) article Creating Conditions For Canadian Aboriginal Health Equity: The Promise Of Healthy Public Policy poses how the aboriginals have been discriminated against in terms of health policy implementation in Canada. The author highlights how the aboriginals in Canada face racism at a high rate (Richmond & Cook, 2016). Implementing new policies that favor this sub-group neeed the efforts of everyone, not just activists.
Health determinants are different variables that influence the health of a certain population. For example, socioeconomic characteristics such as income, education level, and employment rate significantly affect people’s health (Murry & James, 2021). Even though these characteristics have improved marginally in past years, there is still a significant difference between the Aboriginal population and non-Aboriginal Canadians (Mbuzi, 2020). The government should collaborate to promote the country’s standard of living, particularly in Aboriginal areas.
It is necessary to consider what measures may help improve conditions. The article highlights the intricacy of jurisdiction as the key concern, which claims that needless government hierarchy causes hurdles to efficient health care (Jones et al., 2018). It is critical to identify and prioritize the most successful existing policies. It might be accomplished by concentrating authority and resources on a single entity in charge of Aboriginal health services. The strategy would address the growing issue of complicated jurisdiction and unequal budget allocation. The Aboriginal population has a higher rate of infant mortality, a higher rate of suicide, and a reduced life expectancy compared to the rest of the Canadian population due to their poor living conditions. They constitute a disproportionate share of the jail population.
Aboriginals in Canada encounter several hurdles to achieving their basic needs. Poor housing conditions are a key concern influencing Indigenous people’s living level in Canada (Murry & James, 2021). Non-material poverty, on the other hand, involves elements of deprivation that are not necessarily caused by a scarcity of income, like a lack of family assistance (Holtz, 2021). It emphasizes that Aboriginals suffer greatly from non-material aspects of poverty, such as the death of children due to deportation and the deterioration of self-esteem and self-respect due to persecution through time.
In conclusion, many Aboriginal communities have medical and social issues, such as illnesses and low life expectancy. Aboriginals have a low level of life, yet they were the first people in Canada. As a result, addressing concerns like complicated legislation on access to medication, high unemployment rates, poor income, and education challenges is critical. Eliminating social and health barriers for the Aboriginals is important to improve their living conditions.
