Proper planning plays a pivotal role in petroleum engineering. The profession involves properly utilizing the limited available resources in a way that facilitates the achievement of organizational goals. Time exists as one of the limited yet precious resources in petroleum engineering.

A petroleum operations department at Abu Dhabi Company plays a central role in the organization. Work in the petroleum operations department entails ensuring the smooth extraction, refining and selling of both refined and crude oil. Abu Dhabi Company operates in a highly competitive industry dominated by both local and multinational oil companies.

Through set deadlines in the action plan, one gets to know the progress made over a given period. Secondly, an action plan offers an avenue to review goals on both individual and firm levels. Furthermore, this program helps in the proper utilization and allocation of time (Palvarini 2011).
