Advanced practice nursing is focused on increasing the quality of cost-effective medical services for patients. Nurses are usually vital in diagnosing, caring, and establishing efficient contact between patients and clinicians. Advanced practice nurses are essential in the general development of healthcare quality. Some barriers preventing the productive realization of such practices exist. In general, the obstacles can be divided into two main groups: privileges in care and hospital inner issues. The first group addresses the problems of policies and regulations on the federal and local levels preventing patients from getting access to the provider of their choice. The second group is related primarily to the team factors, supervision, leadership approach, and individual medical organization’ planning. The paper discusses strategies for overcoming the mentioned barrier, such as developing the support mechanism for advanced practices and building collaborative relationships in the workplace.
The hospital privileges occur due to the problem of providing high-quality care for a considerable amount of patients. The benefit-getting-oriented ideology of the market regulations of particular hospitals at the local and federal levels prevent the implementation of advanced health care practices. The researchers offer to implement the strategy of increasing the available number of healthcare providers focused on advanced practices (Brassard & Smolenski, n.d.). This strategy contributes to the more efficient distribution of the workload on the national level. As a result, the budgeting and commercial issue become less prevalent. Due to this, the focus of medical providers can be shifted to eliminating the problem of privileges.
The second barrier is the problems related to the inner structure of the medical organizations. Such issues are primarily related to leadership approaches and organizational planning. According to the practical research results, the team-involving barriers to advanced nursing practices are usually based on the lack of collaboration between colleagues (Bottone et al., 2020). In order to overcome this barrier, the implementation of collaborative relationship building should be addressed. The highlighted role of negotiation and trustful relationships are highlighted in this strategy.
The team management issues are primarily connected with the problem of the supervision and leadership approach, which establishes the character of relationships between the medical providers and patients. Advanced practices require nurses and clinicians to provide high-quality healthcare services, which can only be performed in the conditions of well-structured planning (Bottone et al., 2020). Choosing the right management style is essential for care leaders, as it is of great importance for the quality of care. A straightforward implementation of the concept of management and team style of work is the premise of a medical institution. Each medical organization should focus on choosing the individual leadership approach based on the initial aims and goals (Bottone et al., 2020). The team should have a shared purpose or aim that unites all its members’ efforts and which can be achieved only through collaboration. It is especially vital for advanced nursing practices to execute an efficient workload distribution.
The role of advanced practice nursing in the present healthcare trend is essential. Through the efficient strategies mentioned above, some of the barriers to advanced practice nursing can be overcome. The management of the collaborative relationships and planning contributes to the smoother work of the clinicians and nurses. In addition to this, rational planning of budgeting at the local level should be implemented. Moreover, managing the various issues such as privileges should be addressed at the federal level.
