The American practice in fire prevention could be considered one of the most developed in the world. The involvement of the insurance system in the US similarly to UK has been established after large fires which occurred in Chicago and London accordingly.
Therefore the date of 9th October was chosen as the fire prevention day.
The fire prevention system in the US also distinguished by the formation of the Fire code (also Fire prevention code or Fire safety code) a code accepted on a local basis and enforced by fire prevention officers within municipal fire departments. It is a set of rules prescribing minimum requirements to prevent fire and explosion hazards arising from storage, handling, or use of dangerous materials, or from other specific hazardous conditions and complements the building code.
The differences from other countries practices might include the separation of departments which correspond to different statuses of risk and importance of the objects; the integration of the private sector in fire prevention; the insertion of the fire prevention administration into ministry of internal affairs; the degree of cooperation and responsibilities between fire prevention departments and other safety and investigation sectors.
The major difference that might be learned is the priority that each country establishes for the fire safety issues, which include educational programs, funds, and grants that aim to raise the degree of responsibility between the citizens.
