I chose Andres Musketti’s film “It” as the basis for my work. The main advantage of the film is that the creators were able to reveal the fear of each team member of the losers. The dynamics of the film are off the charts, and the special effects are of high quality. The plot is well thought out and implemented at a high level; the film is atmospheric and dark. Thus, the film is a worthy example of American cinema, which combines excellent acting, storytelling, and deep sense.
The acting in this film is top-notch, even though the main roles are children. Getting to know the characters is more superficial, but the film also extensively reveals their personalities. In this regard, each character is a real personality and an important part of the whole mechanism (Musketti, 2017). This is very important, as there is a connection with the actors, because of which the viewer begins to sympathize and pity them (Babina, 2020). The young actors played great, coping with the moral and physical strain; the movie constantly keeps the viewer in suspense.
It is worth noting that director Andres Musketti has directed the film in a peculiar but singular way. Between the prologue, which shows the appearance of evil in the city, and the epilogue, where the denouement takes place, the little characters and their fears are revealed. With this, the viewer would have empathized with the characters and fully understood the nature of this evil. The film is frightening in its growing tension, atmosphere, and screeches. The film’s editing and sound create a special atmosphere that immerses the viewer in that time. An oppressive, emaciated, gloomy color scheme fills the school, the parents’ houses, and the woods, where the children walk apart, while bright, rich, lush colors paint the space when the seven children are together, while a thin, gray veil of gloom covers the whole picture. The sewers and the abandoned house where It dwells are dark and creepy but bright, saturated with dark colors; the locations where the children are together when it is better to be on the cusp of death, but together, than in a house with hateful people, apart.
Both the book and the film adaptation are an amalgamation of a psychological, at that light, dramatic thriller with elements of mysticism and all its implications. The main criterion determining the thriller’s presence is the main character’s heavy struggle with fears, experiences, and problems, the external manifestation of which already acquires the main horror – Pennywise. On the other hand, the film is a heartwarming drama, demonstrating several urgent problems inherent to most modern teenagers, among which are: deep loneliness in the big world, parental indifference, and the theme of cruel school bullying of the elders over the younger ones.
The film also touches on themes important to King: the power of memory, the power of a united group, and the impact of childhood traumas on adult life. Occasionally and suddenly appearing like a red balloon, the comedy genre also makes itself felt. The heart of all humor is concentrated in the dialogues of the main characters, touching in part on elements of modern vulgarity. Society influences the film in that, as stated above, it describes many of humanity’s contemporary problems. By doing so, broadcasting these problems emphasizes their importance, which may influence the viewer. The film highlights important character traits such as mercy, sincerity, friendliness, and loyalty. The director shows what selfishness and other human vices can lead to.
Thus, the film “It” by Andres Musketti is an excellent adaptation of Stephen King’s book. It keeps the viewer in suspense throughout the whole viewing. The transfer of the story, the acting, and the atmosphere make the picture quality. After watching it, each viewer concludes that it greatly affects society. The thriller and drama elements enhance the film’s impression, making it unique in its own way.
