Introduction
Core competency refers to the ability to clinically carry out nursing care using prior skills and knowledge obtained during the course. The Nursing Practitioner (NP) uses creative and critical thinking and lucrative nursing skills to cater to serve patients’ needs (Thomas et al., 2017). NP is required to be a highly sober and abstract thinking nurse since it included integration skills, values, attitudes, and professional judgment.
Clinical Example of the Core Competency
In clinical practice, I participated in a research study about improving the quality care of cardiovascular outcomes the patients. The study included comparing two groups of patients: the first patient had a diuretic protocol implemented by nurses, and the other group was using non-protocol diuretic therapy. After monitoring, scrutinizing, and assessing the two groups using connoisseurs in the field, the first group with a nurse implementing diuretic protocol had adequate diuresis and a shortened period in achieving hemodynamic goals. The patients also demonstrated lessened imbalances of electrolytes and a shortened hospital stay compared to non-protocol diuretic therapy.
Progress in Meeting the Core Competency
I have advanced progress in achieving core competencies in the clinical practice that has aided in managing my team. For instance, I have enhanced my communication skills, both oral and written, which helped me to cooperate with my fellow workmates and supervisors. NP competencies are essential and have significantly contributed to the understanding of skills, scope, and standards of practice. In addition, they facilitated the provision efficiency and effectiveness of care given to patients and maintained the value of patients, hence, contributing to nursing development.
