Introducing the principles of multiculturalism and diversity into education has become essential to the effective knowledge sharing and acquisition of relevant knowledge in the modern academic context. Therefore, tools for supporting internationalized education as a means of familiarizing learners with the multicultural environment have to be incorporated into the learning process. At present, two approaches can be singled out as the most effective ones; these include creating a theme-engagement community by holding activities in residential life and pairing learners with different nationalities in each residential suite. At present, it is critical to encourage discussions about thematized hallways and support the roommate-pairing program with the creation of safe zones for students from specific cultural backgrounds to use for communication and support. Thus, diverse learners will maintain the connection with their community, which will help them to accommodate in a new environment more effectively, at the same time developing rapport with the rest of the local academic community.
The concept of thematized hallways is rather interesting since an innovative approach toward thematization is bound to spark interest in learners and encourage them to learn more about the cultures of other students. Thus, the platform for intercultural communication will be built as students develop enthusiasm about learning about new cultures. However, the proposed technique may entail certain difficulties, the lack of interaction being the most important one. While different themes will make learners curious, they may not be enough to incite the active dialogue between students belonging to different cultures. Therefore, educators will need to prompt the conversation by inviting students to discuss the themes in hallways and express their opinions about them. The thoughts and impressions of both local residents and international learners are important since the latter will comment on the representation of their culture and identity. Thus, the premises for cross-cultural communication between local learners and international students will be created.
A roommate-pairing program as the method of encouraging the intercultural dialogue also requires support to have a lasting positive effect on the target demographic. Since international students may experience significant stress when placed in a new setting without any support system, it will be necessary to provide them with safe spaces where they can communicate in groups and support each other. Thus, the process of cultural accommodation for international students will become less harsh as educators show that they are mindful of the challenges faced by the specified demographic. In addition, it will be necessary to ensure that the specified groups have access to counseling services and the assistance of educators and other members of the school staff at any time. Since international learners are very vulnerable to external factors of the academic setting, they need the active support, which educators will have to provide. Thus, the process of cultural accommodation will be launched.
For the thematization of hallways and roommate-pairing programs to have a positive effect on the internationalization of education, one will need to create a safe environment for the target audience. International students will require safe spaces where they can build their community, with the communication between them and local learners being supported through the discussions of themes represented in hallways. Thus, the process of cross-cultural knowledge sharing will be launched in the selected setting, and both parties will receive an opportunity to engage in an intercultural conversation. The cross-cultural dialogue will have to be supported by creating safe spaces for the target audience. As a result, the effects of internationalized education will be improved significantly.
