Arts are an amalgamation of knowledge and emotions that allow an artist to create something meaningful. Each artist and philosopher tries to give their interpretation of art, and while some think that art is nothing more but a system of knowledge, others consider it to be a means of expressing themselves and what they know. Therefore, arts are a way of applying knowledge through new skills, styles, emotions, and experiences.
First, each artist learns ways of creating, and, therefore, they express the new skills and methods they learned through their works. Like Van Gogh, all artists must carefully consider the materials they use while creating their work (Pugh 26). Van Gogh was picky about the colors he used in his paintings, and in his life, he transitioned from using only yellow to other colors, such as green, expressing how bright hues can be complementary (Pugh 27). Therefore, the given artist created a color theory and principles of color mix. Thus, for a piece of art to be impactful, the learning must be careful, and knowledge is required.
However, art is not only about sharing skills but also the knowledge accumulated through life. Each artist strives to share pieces of wisdom and emotions that weigh on them. According to Leo Tolstoy, “art is not a handicraft; it is the transmission of feeling the artist has experienced” (Tolstoy 46). The writer saw the possibility of creating a meaningful novel only through the impact on the emotions of the reader. Therefore, styles and attention to detail comprised the knowledge applied by Tolstoy, which made his works captivating.
Hence, applying knowledge through new techniques, aesthetics, feelings, and experiences is what the arts are all about. Each artist develops their own methods of creation, and via their works, they communicate the new abilities and techniques they have acquired. All artists, like Van Gogh, must carefully analyze the materials they employ while producing their work. Art is not just about exchanging abilities; it is also about sharing life’s wisdom. Each artist tries to convey insights and feelings that are important to them.
