Arts education is very important for everyone. This area presupposes the awareness of culture, drawings, paintings, music and sculpture. Modern-day arts include photography, film production, video production and computer art (Dinham, 2011, p. 35). There are a lot of researchers who are interested in the influence of art education on the children.
Arts develop different skills and it should be noted that children who are interested in arts are more successful at their study. Students with four years arts or music in high school average 100 points better on their SAT scores than students with one-half year or less. They are better in all three portions: math, reading and writing (10 Reasons to Support the Arts, n.d.). According to the latest research, it was concluded that students with an education rich in arts had not only higher scores, but better attitude about the community service and lower drop-out rates. These achievements are observed in all students regardless of their socio-economic status. Children who are motivated with arts demonstrate attention skills and strategies for memory retrieval which are very useful for other subjects such as maths and science (10 Reasons to Support the Arts, n.d.).
According to the research of the neuroscientists from seven American universities, music, dance and drama education develop other students’ skills. Music classes improve skills in geometric representation as well as reading skills and sequence learning. Acting classes improve memory, learning and manipulating language skills. Dance classes are connected with physical practice and improve cognitive skills (Arts Education and Cognitive Development, 2008).
Many U.S. employers point out that creativity is one of the top five skills that is very important in promotion in business sphere. A college degree in the arts is the brightest indicator of creativity. Arts activities are one of the main subjects at college which develops creativity (Business and School Leaders See the Arts as Key to Preparing Students to Be Creative Workers for the Global Marketplace, n.d.).
Students who have studied arts at college are more likely to achieve success in their work and to be promoted. They are more motivated and disposed towards other people as far as culture and arts unite the whole humanity. More than that, students who have rich education in arts are more adapted to the life. They demonstrate themselves as flexible people with high order-thinking and problem solving skills (Summary of Additional Arts Education Research and Facts, n.d.).
Art fosters humanity in its different aspects. It enables us express whom we are and make sense of the world (Americans for the Arts, 2008). As such, art promotes creativity and beauty, two factors that are core human promoters of well being. This is because art is a strong cultural and social force that is both inspiring and motivating. They are important in the expression of feelings and values, help bring different cultures together and unite humanity regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or religion. Art promotes cultural and multicultural values as well as appreciating aesthetic values present in nature and humanity.
These facts of the latest researches allow us to make a conclusion that arts education is very important for students. It guarantees them a success in their future. That is why it is very important to involve children in arts as far as it helps to develop a lot of different skills, namely problem solving, flexibility, higher order thinking, leadership and cooperation. Children who are interested in arts will be always ahead those who do not have arts education.
