Introduction
My experience in a foreign culture has been traumatizing and very difficult considering that I come from a different race and religion. But the fact that I am from different race does not bother me much as there are varied number of populations with the same skin color as I and we therefore share the same experiences. In order to deal with this I have been humble, sincere, and been seeking guidance on how to understand and deal with them and how I can help my oppressed brothers and sisters irrespective of their skin color or religion as long as they are suffering.
Most of us have heard someone say that he or she is beautiful because they are dark skinned, or they do not date dark or white skin guys or ladies, have made a joke of the religion we come from. All these statements may seem undisruptive but they have a very great impact on a person who is being implied to directly and who is a foreigner in that community. This has been a very difficult subject for me to deal with not only because I am a victim but I feel there are so many things that need to be addressed even though they are difficult to say or for one to hear because discrimination is terrible, wicked and it takes something from the victim that leaves an injury which lasts for years.
Openness of Muslims
I am not trying to blame the casualty but being a Muslim our history is clear to the whole world on the openness we show towards people of different cultures and religions and how we have kept our hearts and minds open to our brothers and sisters irrespective of their background. Considering that we have been taught to unite as five times a day everyday irrespective of our culture and ethnic background we stand together to remember millions of Muslims everywhere of all shapes, sizes and colors I felt bad as this was ignored when I was treated differently because of my differences with them.
Since the mosque is open to all despite their problems and one can pray in any mosque whenever you are; when I encountered this I felt it was very weird. In addition, although they had racial discrimination and prejudice in their hearts and minds I did not exclude them and felt bad that there are still many more people who do not do what Allah expects of us. Islam emphasizes on unity of Muslims and of all believers, this unity is needed so as to save all of us from racial discrimination, religious unfairness and all types of hatred.
The achievement of the Muslim community
The achievement of the Muslim community has been forgotten and improvement is needed to tackle extremism and develop our mosques, education and interaction with the larger community. I hope I have played an important role in helping to address some of the discrimination we go through and hope that measures will be taken to deal with such problems.
I feel that people can help in finding solutions to issues in society that goes untouched as I am sure there are many more people who have gone through what I experienced but did not have a chance to bring them out. We therefore have a vital role to play in challenging discrimination both within our community and in the wider society by talking out the challenges and issues we face so that we can work together to tackle them making sure that no other people in the future generations will go through what we did.
There is a conflict of identity especially being a Muslim and of different races and this can create a sense of displacement which can force someone to behave differently at home and in broader social circles brought up by conflict between different cultures and generations. This conflict mostly arises as people get pulled between their tradition cultures and the western culture causing intergenerational conflicts as the generation present is different from the previous one in many ways.
More effort is needed to raise the integration between people from different race, religions and culture so that one can play a complete and active role in the society no matter where you are without feeling alienated and that one can voice issues affecting their lives.
It seems to me that the better we know about the religion of a particular community the chances of feeling threatened reduce. This is because according to how much you know you can organize against it, can receive unity in the struggle and your values can end up being equality values.
Conclusion
Islam secures the world unity with its fullness and deals with all aspects of human life-giving answers and solutions to their questions and problems; it also leaves limited space for dispute among its followers making people have common values, norms, and ideals important for building world unity. Therefore, as we know most people are influenced by peer pressure, We should therefore all work together to form more organized, safer communities, and raise public commitment and help especially young people develop a sense of belonging and positive reception of those from other backgrounds.
