Business excellence models (BEMs) are frameworks used by many companies to assess and improve their work practices and performance. The UAE government supports organizations adopting BEMs by giving national awards to encourage successful enterprises. Comparing and contrasting different BEMs implemented by organizations may help get insight into how these models affect performance. The presentation discusses the BEMs of DAEP and DEWA based on the results of the interviews with the staff of the organizations.
A key player in Dubai’s aviation sector, DAEP got several awards for the implementation of successful administrative practices and high-quality projects. DAEP incorporates the EFQM as the main excellence model that concentrates on the interests of customers and employees. The crucial challenge faced by DAEP is project delivery. DEWA, in turn, is a public service company that makes water and electricity supply available to people in the UAE.
Having won several awards on both the national and global levels, the organization uses the fourth-generation model that focuses on the permanent innovation and prioritizes the interests of stakeholders. Within this model, the company tries to use renewable energy to overcome challenges associated with water and power production. Both organizations are focused on improving their performance by encouraging employee motivation through training courses, promoting personnel’s involvement in work, and CSR events.
