In the article, Kuttner pointed out that lower voters in rural areas affect election turnout because voter turnout determines if the 2022 congress will be held by the Democrats (Kuttner, 2022). The turnout in 2018 was due to rebellion against Trump; therefore, the turnout votes favored the opposition party. From this, Kuttner finalized that voter turnout is always because of on-the-ground organization because people need proper organization and strategies for turnout. The article used the Movement Lab approach to be able to win back the rural voters. The approach gives information, strategies, and technologies on how to mobilize rural voters. Voters received the texts for meet-ups and political gathering meetings. The text was an essential technique to reach out and provide a live engagement from door to door. The article cites examples of Democrat party political leaders who used the technique, which was functional. They discovered they lost rural voters because of cultural superiority, economic crisis, and extensive feelings.
Relationship to voting and election
The article relates to voting and election topic because it deals with voter turnout and strategies to be used by Democrats to win back rural voters. A healthy democrat should have its citizens voting regularly, but from this article, Kuttner indicates that the Democrats have low rural voter turnout. The article suggests that the Democrats party can improve a low rural voter turnout by being strategic and understanding the needs of rural-based individuals. During the campaign, the political parties and managers use different campaign methods to get to different voters depending on their needs and prior research on the location. Movement Labs method is a strategy discussed in the article, and it is considered the best method with the text as the appropriate technique to win back the rural voters.
Relationship to media
The article relates to media because social media and texting are their communication channel for voter meet-ups and recruitments for political rallies. The article states that the Movement Labs strategy uses text as a critical technique to reach rural voters because it is the fastest way to communicate and shows a live engagement. Kuttner concluded that texting is a way to win the rural settlers into the Democrats’ party because it will allow them to develop local parties and volunteers to reach out.
My Perspective on the Article’s Political Issue
From my perspective, the Democrats party will win back the rural because of the Moment Lab strategy and prior research. The low turnout in the rural area was because they felt forgotten by the democrat party because of economic deterioration and biasedness in culture. The Democrats parts are doing their best to win back these voters from the rural areas by using the Moment lab approach. This approach uses the texting technique to reach out to them in high volume. The activists recruited contacted people via text for meet-ups and recruited volunteers for political attendants gathering, and they were able to know they were neglected. According to Kuttner, many Democratic leaders use the Moment Law approach because it has been thriving recently. They all have been successful, and almost 27 states are using Moment Lab approach to win back voters; therefore, this can work so the Democrats can use it to win back the rural voters. The media will hold the Democrat party accountable for their promises and maintain democracy; therefore, the voters will return.
