Causal relationships are essential in every person’s life and the community in general because they show that everything is interconnected. It is impossible to disregard the causes and the consequences of the events. Otherwise, the perception of reality will not be adequate, and the analysis of the factors that lead to the particular situation will not be complete. Lack of understanding about causal relationships of the events in daily life endangers the health and well-being of people because they cannot determine the reasons that lead to adverse outcomes.
The epidemic of COVID-19 is one of the examples that shows the importance of causal relationships in the community. Understanding personal responsibilities are essential in decreasing the virus’s chances of contamination and spread. For example, when the person uses an individual mask in public space, vaccinates follows the hygiene rules, and does not communicate with people when they know they are ill, the chances for the spread of the infection are comparatively low. On the contrary, when the person knows that they are sick, deliberately disregard the symptoms of COVID-19, and visit public places, they increase the chances of infecting other people. As a result, the disease spreads, and more people are infected. Logically, the number of individuals with severe symptoms of COVID-19 and the number of deaths caused by the virus also increases because these numbers are proportionate to the spread of the disease.
This example from the life of the community shows a connection between every individual’s actions and the consequences for society in general. However, most people try to disregard this correlation because the implications of one particular person’s activities are not instantly evident. Understanding the consequences of one person’s actions to the community, in general, requires the ability to think using abstractions. The situation with the spread of COVID-19 shows that the effects of disregarding personal responsibility and ignoring the epidemic norms lead to adverse outcomes. It makes me think about the individual duty that every person should acknowledge because in most cases people consider their actions insignificant, but they can cause serious problems.
