Introduction
War contradicts a civilized world, but it has always been a matter of state. In recent years, there have been many discussions about why countries go to war, why the United States invaded Afghanistan, and why, after nearly 20 years of American occupation, there was no decisive victory. In this essay, I will examine the leading causes of war and why the US invaded Afghanistan and then withdrew from the country.
War Causes
War has various causes. First, it can be caused by economic goals, especially when competing for petroleum products. Second, it can be caused by political and diplomatic goals when two sides are unable to agree and decide to go to war. Third, it can be caused by religious or ideological reasons (Carlisle, 2022). Finally, it can be caused by terrorist actions or human rights violations.
The Case of the US Invasion of Afghanistan
For the United States, the last invasion of Afghanistan was caused by violations of human rights by the local regime. The Afghan government was atrocious towards its citizens and destroyed many civil liberties (Carlisle, 2022). The US intervened to help the Afghan people protect their rights and freedoms.
After 20 years of American presence, there was no distinct victory in Afghanistan for many reasons. First, the struggle between Afghan and foreign forces continued for more than 20 years. Second, many Americans were unable to stand up to the numerous Afghan opponents (Carlisle, 2022). Third, American military activity lacked consistency and prosperity to achieve its goals.
President Biden’s decision to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan was the correct one. Although 20 years of American occupation did not bring a decisive victory, they gave Afghanistan rights and freedoms that the people did not have before (Carlisle, 2022). Now, the Afghan people must continue fighting for their rights and freedoms.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that war contradicts the concept of a civilized world. There are many causes of war, from economic to religious, and the Afghan government’s atrocious attitude towards its citizens. President Biden’s choice to pull US troops out of Afghanistan has aided the Afghan population, enabling them to persist in their struggle for rights and freedom. American forces must leave the country but continue to support the people of Afghanistan in their fight for rights and freedoms.
