In the article “A New Climate Reality: Less Warming, But Worse Impacts on the Planet,” the author describes possible climate change scenarios and their consequences. The article also states that climate change, including extreme heat waves and storms, is already occurring. Accordingly, the events described by scientists earlier are now emerging. For instance, California has avoided the risk of massive blackouts due to high temperatures, but such events are anomalous (Dance, 2023).
According to the latest forecasts, increased greenhouse gases are the leading cause of global warming. Consequently, researchers indicate that the temperature will rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius by 2100, leading to catastrophic consequences (Dance, 2023, p. 2). To avoid this, the Paris Agreement was signed in 2015, which should help control greenhouse gas emissions (Dance, 2023, p. 3). This indicates that measures have been put in place to stop the negative processes.

It is worth noting that the author includes climate data in the article as a discussion of scientists’ predictions. For example, research indicates that the Earth will warm by 2.4 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. In addition to the consequences of global warming, the author also provides statistical data demonstrating trends to curb it. For instance, the author indicates that “in 2010, solar and wind energy accounted for 1.7 percent of global electricity production, and in 2020, it will already be 8.7 percent” (Dance, 2023, p. 3). Thus, the article concludes that the negative impacts of global warming are evident, but humanity is seeking ways to combat climate change.
Personal Reflection on Climate Change and Its Relevance
I have a positive attitude toward the article “A New Climate Reality” because it describes the causes and consequences of the expected changes. Moreover, the author provides statistical evidence of people’s struggle against climate change, making this article well-researched. In addition, I was interested in this article because I am actively engaged in activities to support the sustainable development of the Earth and monitor the news about climate change.
