Problem-Solving Competency
Competency is a fundamental element of every coach; it contributes positively to the performance and initiates a meaningful impact on the participants. While coaching promotes expertise and perfection in the participant’s problem solving enables the coaches to structure the activities based on the participant’s requirement. Further, problem-solving competency has enhanced the coach’s ability to fully understand the trainees’ needs and design the appropriate strategy to address those needs competently. Arguably, competency has facilitated the effective attainment of training needs in sports. Similarly, competent coaches have enhanced posted outcomes regarding highly qualified outputs and better performances. Even though related challenges, problem-solving competency has enabled the coaches to mobilize the resources at their disposal to stimulate the solution to the most complex situations hence realizing their coaching objectives in sports (Sun et al., 2020).
Problem-solving and ethical decisions go hand in hand. Achievement of effectiveness in sports coaching relies on appropriate decisions needs established by highly competent coaches. Ethical guidelines provide a set of rules that impact the actions of the coacher and the trainee. For instance, respect, trust, and cooperation form the basic rules that guide both parties’ actions. As a tool to improve performance and sports experience, both parties encourage strict adherence to the ethically accepted code of conduct. Ethics improve the decision emerging from problem-solving by integrating morally acceptable cues towards decision and logical reasoning. In this case, to be a better coach, I believe making ethical decisions will help me with my sports coaching career.
Making ethical decisions in a sports will also help gain the necessary attributes and ensure that the sporting exercise has successfully achieved the required target. Therefore, problem-solving is a crucial component and requirement to resolve underlying sports-related issues effectively. The main aim of the problem-solving technique is to ensure that the decision achieved has favoured both parties, following an ethical process in arriving at those decisions (Funke et al., 2018). Additionally, problem-solving has a close link to teaching and learning. Problem-solving ensures a straightforward and effective learning process for the sport’s participants. For instance, if the students have undergone an adequate problem-solving competency, they will be better positioned to actualize their training and replicate it in their sporting activities. Finally, problem-solving will enhance trainers’ and trainees’ cognitive ability and decision making skills, thus resulting in favourable sports experiences and outcomes.
Valuing Competency
Valuing is vital in any sports activity and the team involved. Thus any sports-related activity should consider. Valuing will ensure that respect between the team members has been achieved effectively. For instance, the coaching career allows a smooth transfer of skills between the coach and the trainee; hence higher results are achieved. Great results are achieved when respect is promoted between the parties involved in the team (Soccer, 2021). For example, it is imperative to ensure that the coaches and teammates have been valued to ensure a straightforward training exercise and relationship between the teammates and the coaches. Coaches provide that there should be significant results in all events, particularly at the end of the sporting exercise. Therefore, a high value must be maintained between the coaches and teammates. It is required to value your coaches since they are the most influential persons in our lives. Individuals need to ensure that coaches are valued so that they strive to ensure that we have achieved the required targets and projections and attain the most appealing results in the long run.
It is essential to make effective, ethical decisions for the teammates and other coaches as a coach. Additionally, valuing is a core competency that allows respect to dominate between the coaches and teammates; the care will allow great results and the team to realize the targets. If there is no respect between the teammates and the coaches, it will be cumbersome to discover the set targets of the coaching process as well (Fahrenbach et al., 2019). Therefore, it is imperative to ensure that we have observed the aspect related to valuing between the coaches and the teammates.
It is essential to exercise ethical decision-making as a coach to realize great results. Ethical decision-making will allow all the involved parties have been satisfied with the decision made by the coach. In addition, ethical decision-making ensures relatively higher credibility in the decision made by the coaches. I value making ethical decisions as a coach since I understand that it is crucial to ensure the involved parties must be satisfied. There will be a higher level of satisfaction among the involved parties whenever adequate, ethical decision-making occurs.
Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is one of the greatest and core values in any sporting activity and decision-making. Critical thinking allows the coach to plan how they will adapt their lessons and achieve their projections for their team. Having a practical option for laying down decisions will enable the coach to make accurate decisions to attain the targets that are involved in the coaching process. In the practising process, there is a need for a coach to ensure that they have effectively prepared the training session by the adoption of effective critical decisions (Elder and Paul, 2020). The coach will be better positioned to evaluate the necessary information from the trainees and other coaches to ensure that they have successfully achieved the required training sessions.
The training sessions require one to be fully prepared and that the utilization of critical thinking has evaluated the information. Whenever the coach has utilized effective critical thinking, they will be able to offer a practical plan for their training and coaching sessions. As a coach, follow-up plans and the adoption of essential components from the trainee will be efficient. It will ensure that I have achieved the threshold in attaining the best practices in allowing a good practice session. Additionally, effective communication will be vital in ensuring that the critical thinking process has been achieved by a coach in the planning for training sessions. Using critical thinking in a training session will be effective in ensuring success in the end. If a coach is not better positioned to match essential thinking with the coaching process, it will be impossible for them to choose the drills to practice (Dill, 2020). As a coach, I must think critically and establish what drills the trainee needs and the areas that need to be refocused in the process. If I am not in a position to pinpoint the flaws and strengths of my team, it will not be possible to achieve the said targets in the end. Critical thinking will ensure that the coach has assessed what techniques in the sport need to be fostered in the trainees; therefore, new drills will be exercised.
Leading
Leading involves the aspect of making decisions that will influence others. As a coach, the ability to lead the trainees will ensure an effective follow-up process and realization of mental preparedness for an event. The competition will ensure that a trainee has achieved a more significant move for mental preparedness and hence, portray more excellent results in the actual event (Yu et al., 2021). As a coach and a leader, it is imperative to ensure that a trainer has exercised some strategies such as goal setting and emotional control; this will ensure that the participants have become mentally prepared.
The leading process will be the baseline for the team’s success since the participants will be mentally prepared and realize great results during the actual event. Offering the top practices by the coach or leaders in a sport will post a team to a higher level of mental preparedness and hence realize great results once the process has been commenced. A coach or a leader exemplifies good leadership by leading as an example to the juniors and others. The ability and capacity to show their leadership styles will be one of the best practices that the participants will learn the core aspects of being a great leader. The values of good leadership can be taught through various modes; for instance, they can be taught through modelling the way and allowing others to act (Makarova et al., 2019). Whenever a leader allows their participants to exercise and portray whatever they have learned, it will be a great move from which the values of good leadership will be learned in the end. Additionally, the participants’ leadership styles and techniques are fostered whenever they are allowed to practice them and develop the refocusing strategies.
Interacting
The exchange of ideas and techniques is important in ensuring that the training session is effective in the long haul. Interacting with the team members allows the training session to be cheerful and the communication process effective. It is important to ensure that the aspect of interaction has been achieved since one can get relevant information from other teammates (Iversen, 2018). As a coach, the interaction with my participants will be conducted by ensuring that I have engaged in practising with them and guiding them where they require my guidance during the training session.
The interaction between the coach and the participants creates a rapport that instils confidence in the participants and achieves the best in the end. Additionally, I will engage and interact with the participants during the issuance of instructions. This will be a great moment from which the creation of challenges will be realized and, eventually, a more excellent rapport between the coach and the participants in the long haul. Participants have mixed feelings and reactions in any setting, which needs to be addressed. There are nervous participants and those unsure of themselves; these participants tend to realize relatively lower scores. During the coaching process, it is imperative to ensure that those uncertain about what they are required to execute have been guided to achieve the best results in the long haul (Opstoel et al., 2020). As a coach, these individuals need to undergo a series of practices to achieve higher confidence levels. In the end, they will achieve the best results eventually.
