Juan Fernandez and His Neighborhood
As a client to be helped and treated, Juan Fernandez was chosen. He is 52, an old Mexican who migrated to Canada. His current occupation is working in greenhouses in Leamington. Juan has a family, their wife and children, who live in the same home as him, a two-bedroom house in Ontario. The client’s address is 106 Mill Street, Leamington, Ontario. It is the intersection of Whitwam Ave and Mill Street East.
Juan should be treated and provided with support regarding Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). Lamington is a small town in Ontario with a population of 50,923 people (Statistics Canada, 2023). We visited a community on 3 October 2023 as a day and time.
Nurses must conduct a thorough community survey to understand its resources for themselves, the patient, and their families (Your Health Services, n.d d.). Notably, by realizing the geographical location of important structures such as governmental buildings, medical facilities, pharmacies, and other vital points where the patient can obtain help, the nurse creates the qualitative basis for future treatment (Health Canada, 2023). This will also be essential in different unexpected situations.
Windshield Survey & Community Assessment
History
I observed particular devastations and inappropriate states of specific areas by looking at the neighborhood. The roads and sidewalks are in poor condition and should be repaired. The buildings in the area are tiny private houses with parking lots. Many people have different attributes near their houses, such as tables, small gardens, and other types of households. When asked about the longitude of living in this neighborhood, the overwhelming majority responded that they had lived there since birth. While answering if significant changes occurred in this area, they answered that they did not notice significant changes.
Demographics
Many people who live in this area are considered to be older. Many of them live alone or with their partners. The population is homogenous because I met both men and women.
Ethnicity
While researching the neighborhood, I did not notice specific restaurants or festivals representing different ethnic groups. Remarkably, the area is poor for events due to the dominance of the private sector and considerably calm way of life. However, while considering different cultural groups, in some buildings, there were national flags of other countries, such as Mexico or the United States, highlighting the presence of people from other countries and cultures.
Values and Beliefs
The area can be stated as one with many churches and religious facilities. For example, Salvation Army Family Services is near the client’s house. The St. Michael’s Parish church is situated on the other side of the road. They appear homogenous and provide their attendees with different services. There are beautiful gardens near these places with cared lawns and flowers. The area is clean and is supported by people in terms of suitable conditions. Among the historical markers in this neighborhood, it is essential to mention historical parks such as Carolina Woods Park.
Subsystems
Physical Environment
Such aspects as air quality, zoning, housing, and green areas can be assessed as qualitative and good-looking. However, as stated earlier, other problems exist, such as bad-quality roads and sidewalks. Climate, natural beauty, and housing can be stated as average and needing specific improvements. It is easy to find a map of this neighborhood while searching on the internet or buying it physically in the local stores or markets. The size of the area is approximately 27 blocks.
Health and Social Services
While considering the researched area, one can state that no chronic conditions exist. The neighborhood has particular medical facilities such as the CBT Therapy Center and Abraham Orthodontics. In addition, there is a sports center, Impact Health and Fitness Centre Inc., in this area. In addition, there is a Service Canada Centre that provides people with exceptional services and support among governmental and service centers. The resources mentioned above are inside the community and can be easily reachable.
Economy
The community can be measured as economically stable due to the presence of specific facilities such as small businesses and different communities. It has various places for employment, starting from schools as parks and ending up with stores and markets. The area has small cafe shops, such as doughnuts and burger cafes, and supermarkets where people can shop for products.
Community & Government Resources
Service Canada Centre and CBT Therapy Center are where the client can obtain particular support and information. In addition, while considering special programs, it is essential to mention funding programs and treatment systems for people with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada. It states specific recommendations for people with this disease and provides patients with constant support (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2023). The client can access these resources by visiting the Service Canada Centre (What’s New, n. d.). Moreover, it is possible to find contacts and other data on the internet.
