The solution for a person to overcome confirmation bias would be to approach a person who sees things differently than what such an individual sees them. In addition, there is a need for such a person seeking a solution to be open to new ideas and not be stuck with the old school of thought. In this case, being open to and exploring other people’s ideas would help much comprehend issues (McRaney). Talking with an outside party, namely a trusted individual such as a coach, would assist in impartially exploring one’s beliefs and thoughts without any form of judgment. Getting a different perspective is essential because it eliminates such bias.

There are some specific things a person can do to counteract confirmation bias or to keep it from occurring. For example, there is a need for circling back and considering new hypotheses when evaluating new information (McRaney). In addition, a person should not jump to conclusions too quickly. In this case, a person should treat all the information gathered as a fact-finding mission without having rushed conclusions. Additionally, counteracting confirmation bias entails brainstorming sessions where data or information is subject to further scrutiny to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Confirmation bias is a leading mental obstacle that requires eliminating solutions, such as flagging it and proving oneself wrong. One of the most problematic situations of human reasoning involves the existence of confirmation bias (McRaney). In this case, there is a need for confirmation bias to receive the necessary attention from all the persons involved. Overcoming confirmation bias would be of much help because it would significantly reduce misunderstandings, altercations, and disputes among countries, groups, and individuals.
