Nowadays Mass Media is one of the most influential and reliable sources of communication. It has a great influence on people’s minds and attitudes to some events of the modern world. Due to television and means of communication, such as the Internet and different social nets, people get to know all the necessary information and the latest news in the world. The present paper is devoted to the problem of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the way it is highlighted in the main media source, such as television. Among a variety of Mexican problems, this one remains to be the most burning and important as the consequences of the oil leakage in the Gulf of Mexico are devastating.

Speaking about the policy of BP, the members of the organization are concerned about this problem. They are trying to find the best possible solution to the problem of oil leakage in the Mexican gulf. The public relations department of the BP Company uses different ways to cover the information of the oil leakage. On the website of the company, it is possible to find a great number of articles, videos, and pictures demonstrating the latest events in the heart of the tragedy, the state of Louisiana. A separate page of the site is devoted to this topic. It proves that the manager tries to keep the audience advised of the current news and changes.

The first video source used is BP is hoping to employ its “top kill” approach to shut down the leaking oil in the Gulf of Mexico. It states BP attempts to reduce the oil leakage by means of blocking its top kill. Recently, the president of the United States Barak Obama arrived at Louisiana, the state that suffered from the oil leakage most of all, in order to consider the most appropriate ways out of the current problem (BP is hoping to employ its “top kill” approach to shut down the leaking oil in the Gulf of Mexico). This video is presented in the form of a formal presentation with the usage of visual images and schemes that give a complete understanding of the message.

The next video under discussion, Oil spill threatens red snapper season, provides us with information about the consequences of the oil spill. As a result of this spill, a great amount of fish is dead and red snapper season is under threat. According to the words of Nich Budney, the oil leakage led to the extinction of some rare species of redfish (Oil spill threatens red snapper season). Comparing with the previous video, this one is presented in the form of an interpersonal interview, with the usage of visual examples and comments. In general, the message of the video is clear. Due to this fact, the information is covered completely and perfectly understandable.

Gulf of Mexico oil spill sparks new US drilling ban is the last video concerning the topic of oil spilling in Mexico. It presents the audience with the speech of the White House adviser, telling about the ban of new drilling within the territory of Louisiana (Gulf of Mexico oil spill sparks new US drilling ban). This video is rather shot and is presented in the form of a short speech. Information is communicated competently and completely understood due to the form of presentation. The main aim of this piece of information is to cover the essential questions.

In general, all three sources of information are pieces of television news. All of them are related to the same topic of oil leakage in the Mexican Gulf, but they are different from the point of view of presenting the information. The first one is a third-person presentation, the second is performed in the form of an interpersonal interview and the last one is the first-person speech. The information is covered completely, as each piece of news contains some peculiar information.
