Developmental editing is the process of consultation that is conducted by a researcher before he/she begins to write a paper. It involves altering the content of the information that is available to meet the recommendations of the review that has been acquired from consultation. Developmental editing is important as it helps to organize, analyze and prepare the base in which the research should follow. This is a basic step that has to be conducted before any research is conducted.

Developmental editing is done by following certain rules and procedures that are standard for any research. The writer should first suggest a format which will be used in the write up of the report that will be used to communicate the findings of the research. This is then followed by rewriting the text to make sure that it they fit the format selected. The sentence structure of the report should be perfect and there should be a smooth flow of ideas and information from one paragraph to the next. The last thing that the writer should do is to develop that will handle the trademarks and notes of the paper.

A comparison between qualitative and quantitative research

Qualitative research is a research method that is used to gain and in-depth understanding of a phenomenon that is understood by man. It tries to identify the behavior and relationship that exists between the variables that are being investigated. Quantitative research on the other hand is a systematic empirical method that is used to gain information pertaining the relationship and properties of a phenomenon. These two methods are used in research to gain a lot of information. They are used to manipulate and analyze the data to come up with a conclusion which is very detailed and useful to man.

Despite these differences, these methods can be used together in a study. Qualitative research is used first to identify the behavior and trends of variable while quantitative research is used to find the empirical relationships between these variables. With these set of analysis, a favorable conclusion can be arrived at. This conclusion will be reliable as all the factors have been considered in the study.

Importance of sources in writing

While writing a research report, it is important to support your arguments with valid information from studies that have been conducted on the same topic. The stronger your argument is the better the research. It is therefore important to read widely on the topic of interest before, while and after conducting a research to have a clear understanding of the topic of study. To ensure that the information which you have used to support your arguments is valid it is important to use books and peer reviewed journal from the topic of study. The use of recent literature is also encouraged since they contain up to date information on the topic. It is therefore important to have a clear understanding of your topic and use a wide range of literature to support the arguments that have been put forward in your literature.

Audience analysis

Audience analysis is the investigation that is conducted to determine the type of people who will be interested in reviewing your work after the research has been completed. The audience of a study varies depending on the type of research that is conducted, its purpose and the field of study. In professional studies, the audience of the research is mainly fellow academicians. Such studies are therefore published in peer reviewed journals and books. In other instances the study is presented before a panel of academicians or in a conference. It is therefore necessary for the researcher to know the type of audience so that he can prepare his/her work according to these standards.
