In his speech, Bruce Feiler lists three standards that are important to apply in a family to build relationships with children. Thus, they develop responsibility and the capacity to plan. One of these rules is the greater freedom of children to make their own decisions. This signifies that adults must give them certain powers and rights in the family (Feiler, 2013). Meaningful responsibility and learning from one’s own mistakes is the basis on which children are introduced to an imperfect world.
This plank is important for every family and needs to be thought about and applied from an early age. First of all, I would let the children spend their pocket money on whatever they want. At the same time, if they needed something more relevant, I would refuse additional expenses. It may be cruel on the one hand, but it allows every child to learn from mistakes. If parents try to protect the child from the difficulties of life, remove the child from everyday difficulties, the child gets used to the fact that his parents will do everything for him. In their family, responsibilities would be divided and children would receive every day feasible tasks regarding household issues.
However, the family mission and its realization in one’s own children play a vital role. For me, this mission is to instill in children kindness and a desire to make the world a better place. This decision was influenced by modern society, which, on the one hand, is more tolerant than before, but still just as cruel. Many people are brutal because they didn’t have a good example in their family. I think that any good comes from upbringing and I want my children to be open and responsive.
