Introduction
Recently, issues related to the development of the healthcare system have been high on the political agenda. This is because, despite certain successes in the field of public health and the adoption of several large-scale measures, there are still problems with providing citizens with affordable and quality medical care. This is evidenced by the research data, the results of sociological surveys, and citizens’ appeals. The main gaps are such issues as an insufficient level of skills of doctors, their shortage, as well as expensive medicines.
Issues of the healthcare system
Without knowledge and skills in any profession, one cannot become a successful, valuable, and respected worker. Indeed, being a professional includes having knowledge and mastery of the necessary techniques and methods. Unfortunately, insufficient competence of medical professionals often leads to medical errors. For example, it is not uncommon for a nurse to choose the wrong medication from a drug database, leading to a patient’s death (Kohn et al., 2000). In addition, the heavy workload of medical professionals is still an unsolved problem for the healthcare industry (National Patient Safety Foundation, 2015). When there are not enough employees, it is harder for them to perform their duties well. This undoubtedly leads to a decrease in the quality of medical care and to medical errors.
Conclusion
Finally, the last gap area is drug prices and overall treatment costs. Many people have to neglect their health because treatment is too expensive. Ways must be developed to overcome these problems since the nation’s health depends on their solution. The fact that these issues have not been eliminated despite major medical advances demonstrates the need for a more detailed search for unique and highly effective strategies.
