Introduction

The ruling class is type of a social class within a society which is responsible in making decision and political policies of that specific society. This assessment paper will be focusing deeply on the Britain’s ruling class both in political and in economic powers.

The existence of the ruling class in Britain has been considered as an embarrassment to capitalism. The link between the economic power and political powers brings about crazy conspiracy theories. The political class has been spotted severally working against some interests of the economic activities like global warming and scheming a world government (Sawyer, 2005). Every political party is currently subjected to savage cuts and changes in living standards as a result of the global crisis. If carefully managed, the changes might lead to effect which will benefit every citizen; it’s observed that the ruling class is uniting day by day to be in a better position to defend its own interests making citizens to pay for their crisis. Due to this and other several reasons, Karl Marx described the ruling class as a “band of warring brothers”. When the different sectors interests require to be defended the top people would close ranks.

Main body

Economically, the rewards in the markets rotate around those who are already at the top in the society. The businesses and other money making ventures of the famous personnel’s in the society dominate the celebrity pages of newspapers. The sons and daughters of the already famous dominate in the top economic activities. The modern ruling class in Britain is currently spread over various sectors such as in political leaders, top business organizers, in banking and financing, and even the old fashioned land owners (Carnevali & Strange, 2007). Despite the spread of the ruling class, there is a specific class of top people in the society who attend the same schools, engage in the same types of businesses, inherit political powers and live lives completely different from the vast majority. However, when any trouble is realized whether politically or economically, the various sectors of the ruling class start blaming each other for the cause of the problem.

For instance, due to the current recession most of the people were perfect in blaming the bankers for the global financial collapse. On the other hand, some sectors of the ruling class consider the focus of the bankers as a suitable excuse. The ruling class greatly affects political powers. In several cases some people are seen leaving their jobs as party workers to become councilors or members of parliament with inadequate experience of the political world. When this truth is revealed, it’s then covered by the fact that this political class serves a big ruling class and other corporate interests. In every nation, just economic power leads to prosperity in economy which enhances the political liberty. But for the nations like Britain where there is ruling class of the top people who only defend their interests, the economic and political linkage will never be beneficial (Casu, et al, 2006).

The government had tried to make some efforts of privatizing all the nationalized industries so as to come up with a popular capitalism. However this system failed to accommodate individual investors. Most of the individual who attempted to buy some shares sell them as soon as possible, living the top people in the society who can withstand the risks and hold on to their shares. The issue of the ruling class has resulted to the top people receiving a huge pay and hence existence of much wealth in British society. In return these top people who earn a lot of money form the ruling class making the wealthiest part of the economy to be owned by few people. Britain is considered by many as class ridden society. This is due to the continued existence of wealthy and privileged group of people. Throughout the centuries, the ruling class has established a number of organizations in which themselves and their off springs maintain circle of wealth.

Surprisingly, in the public schools the children who belong to the ruling class are separated from everyone and given special guidance on how to rule others (Fisher & Lovell, 2006). The ruling class has dominated in the positions of the state hierarchy. Most of the judges, who interpret the law and top government officials, attained their education in top public schools and Oxbridge graduates. In the treasury the same types of graduates were found to be the rulers there.

The powerful people in the government who were earning a lot of money paid less taxes hence having more leisure time instead of working hard to increase their payments. The individuals who were earning less amount of money ended up paying much tax, the issue of tax deduction implied an increment of income for the rich people which made the economic status of the country to become poor day by day. The inequality of the rich and the poor in Britain was intended to bring about the efficiency in the economy. With time it was realized that, the power gap has contributed to the weaknesses found among the economy. Due to the recession, the demand, business investment, and the consumer spending drastically fell. This happened as a result of failure of economy to recover from the high rising recession (Sawyer, 2005).

The increased pay of the high people in the ruling class is not related with the improved performance of the economy. The increased salaries of the bosses do not contribute by any way the success of their companies. The opposite happens because the high payments which are received by them are not related with their performances. In political power, there are a lot of personal enrichments which has been weakening the economic long term growth rate (Fisher & Lovell, 2006). A well supported economy can lead to a welfare state but the enrichments of the capitalists have been dragging back the economy.

Conclusion

The individual capitalists keep on competing for the largest part of the deteriorating economy hence the nation can not recover from recession. The confidence of the politicians and economists has been increasing over the issue of controlling the capitalism. They claimed that there was a possibility of delivering full employment and raising the level of the citizens’ living standards (Worthington & Britton, 2006). They promised to bury the class struggle. The old fashioned manual workers were to be replaced by the educated and relaxed middle class workers. All these promises kept citizens with hopes but were never realized. Instead, the ruling class continued becoming richer day by day and separating itself from the life experiences of the rest of the majority. There is huge wealth produced by capitalism which is spent on luxury goods and assist in creating the instability in the economic system.
