- The site has an android platform.
- edWeb.net provides a synchronous chat room.
- The site offers the instant messaging feature.
edWeb.net is a free professional as well as a social networking site that provides a platform for educators to connect with colleagues globally. The site offers a robust number of individuals to interact with as it has over seventy members and eight hundred communities. The online community comprises of educational experts, persons involved in decision-making as well as other professionals involved in education. Other members of the edWeb.net community are leaders in the area of education innovations.
Some of the great features have been included to ease procedures such as the registration process. The registration process is well structured in a manner that when registering, the process walks the new member through all the stages of the process. The site also has significant features that are easy to use when creating an online profile. Creating one’s profile on the site is easy as the mandatory fields are well highlighted. The ed.Web.net also has a mobile platform that makes it easier to use when on the move.
edWeb.net provides a synchronous chat room that allows one to chat with their contacts whenever they are online. Synchronous chatting enabled me to create a more online presence given that I was able to post a message to a colleague and get an immediate response.
I used the instant messaging to communicate with my colleagues. The use of instant messaging is essential in enabling one to create their online presence. The instant messaging enabled me to establish some good sense of connection to members of my communities.
Sharing Information
edWeb.net allowed me to discuss how I used technology in class.
I was able to engage in a discussion on how to use technology in the area of education. The forum was meant to make a contribution on how a new technology that was being tested would help make learners achieve their goals efficiently. Given the ease of use of edWeb.net by new users, I was able to attach a photo that illustrated the use of technology in the classroom.
edWeb.net allowed me to comment and share photos on how to increase student participation in class.
On a different forum that was discussing how to ensure that learners engage in better discussions, I shared what educators can do to foster student participation. According to the resource theory of education, most administrators view the bright students as resources. As such the innovative sitting arrangements in the classroom, leads to better resource utilisation. I posted a photo of the arrangement I used when conducting in one of the classes that I taught.
Evaluation of Participation
I am an intermediate edWeb.net user.
Participation on edWeb.net is slow given the delayed response to issues by the community members.
edWeb.net allows educators to interact with experienced educational professional.
edWeb.net community offers an accessible platform to foster reforms in the education sector.
I still require more time in the online community so as to be able to achieve more and learn from the members’ contribution in different areas of education. The site has several engagement interfaces that enable one to progress through the degree of expertise much faster. I can post and conduct discussions in the communities on edWeb.net. I have also managed to understand the language that is used by most of the members, as well as the technical terms used. I have not managed to build a significant following on edWeb.net since it takes time to create an extensive list of contacts. For an online community, it requires that when one comments on a forum, other members react to the observations by offering their views.
By the use of online communities for participation, the existing differences between what pre-service teachers learn in their school curriculum and the reality they experience in the field are closed. The educators expose students to the real-world teaching techniques that are principle based. Teachers later modify most of the learnt techinques, to suit the learner’s needs. The site has many educators from across the world. The members include persons who have done different works in the education sector. Through edWeb.net, one can create an excellent network of professionals who offer mentorship.
