Introduction
The concept of teamwork is critical in any organizational setup. It promotes order and effective achievement of set goals and objectives. In the hospital facility, healthcare professionals interact with patients with different diseases who need immediate action. This calls for teamwork and response by all members in the various departments. The primary purpose of this case study is to apply all the concepts of teamwork and barriers in achieving quality improvement in projects.
Case Study and Arising Problems
The paper presents a case study of a 64-year man who has a seizure disorder history. In addition, he has the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypertension. On this particular day, he presents several health issues and difficulty breathing. The care team tries to handle his case, but in the process, they forget to offer a standard treatment that causes harm to him. Further, a subsequent error in medication worsens the situation making him stay in the hospital longer than expected.
Process in Building, Accessing, and Monitoring a Team
Defining the Purpose
A hospital is a set facility specializing in healthcare services to patients. Some services offered include guidance and counseling, diagnosis, medication, treatment, and preventive care (Lattie et al., 2022). All the team members must be aware of the organization’s specific purpose. This eliminates irrelevance and loosing of focus in terms of objectives and goals. The expected improvements and changes must be laid down for reference and feedback.
Assembling the Team
Once the project’s purpose has been realized, the hospital team members must be organized to write down strategies. This brings motivation and a socialization process enabling free interaction among all the organization members. Virtues of respect, trust, and support are adopted to promote unity and satisfaction. Motivation strategies, including guidance and counseling, and coaching sessions are included for emotional growth. Individuals who are exposed to stressful working conditions become less productive and depressed.
Determining the Goals
A team with one purpose and vision should set governing goals and objectives. They act as guidelines on the expectations and tasks. The healthcare professional must set measurable and achievable goals to avoid medical errors resulting from carelessness. The condition of human life is critical and vulnerable hence the need for increased accuracy (Shaukat et al., 2021). The healthcare team should be aware of cultural sensitivity when dealing with patients from different backgrounds. The nursing code of ethics requires respect and preservation of individual values and beliefs.
Setting Expectations
A successful healthcare organization considers the individual preferences of every personnel. Therefore, the expectations of each member must be known, and the steps to be taken to achieve them. Applying practical communication skills brings understanding and cooperation while handling patients. A set of rules governing the hospital’s culture directs the team members on achieving goals. Achievable and clear expectations are appropriate to avoid cases of ambiguity.
Monitoring and Reviewing
Performance is monitored regularly by the managers to assess the progress. This can be done by meeting with other healthcare professionals to review their progress and achievements. A record of each individual’s daily activities and attainments is examined for reference. Further, the challenges faced while on duty are concerned, and effective solutions to such issues are discussed. A record of work attendance is accessed to identify individuals who do not keep time and aim at destroying the hospital’s reputation in society.
Celebrating and Rewarding
Workers need motivation and rewards to continue appropriately offering services. Employers should recognize the efforts of team members by measuring their achievements and motivating them. This will boost their morale leading to a positive attitude towards work. Trips can be organized so that the members will have time to socialize and forget the stress associated with work on a daily routine. Most hardworking individuals can be recognized and rewarded for being role models to others.
Methods Used by Various Disciplines and “C-Suite” to Provide Resources
Making Problems and Challenges Known
Due to the emerging issues and changes in the trends of diseases, hospital workers face many challenges while on duty. Nurses may need more protective equipment like face masks and gloves. Therefore, the hospital’s directors must know these problems to offer support. The process of requesting resources is followed by questions from the administration on the need for such support (Brown et al., 2022). Making the team members understand the issues affecting them in their daily activities enables releasing resources without delays.
Holding Meeting to Discuss Project Strategies
Staff meetings with all the workers and administrators give room to set out activities. During these sessions, the expected achievements are shared by team members and the support they need. Explaining the purpose and need to do some activities will facilitate budget allocation and follow-up progress. For instance, the need to create public awareness of disease prevention reduces the number of patients in the hospital.
Create an Implementation Plan
Activities set in an organization follow a specific strategy and methodology. This involves setting plans for the activities that should be followed to realize a common goal. Having an implementation plan shows the need for the project to receive support on the resources needed. In most cases, the estimated cost of the project and the materials required are written in a record book for efficiency. This document shows the project’s seriousness in achieving goals.
Interprofessional Members with the Ability to Improve Progress
An effective project team executes members who are responsible and ready to take up duties and responsibilities. Possession of leadership, team, and communication skills should be a significant consideration while selecting the members. An interprofessional team in a healthcare project comprises physicians and nurses, community health workers, social workers and psychologists, a project sponsor, support staff, and a representative from the community (Kim et al., 2023).
The project sponsor examines the activities from a higher level and gives expected future outcomes. The project manager monitors the daily activities and ensures the workers report to duty. Staff members provide support from all perspectives, and their presence is critical. The healthcare team members ensure that the established projects are relevant to the current needs.
Potential Conflicts and Solving Strategies
Healthcare team members may need help with patients and other staff, which interferes with the working progress. Conflicts may arise from competition between professionals, inadequate facilities, cultural differences, lack of clear objectives, and poor management. Effective Problem-solving strategies are employed to deal with the barriers when they arise.
Firstly, a conversation between t parties involved must be held to establish the origin of the problem (Jaiswal et al., 2021). Each party offers a narrative explanation of the conflicting issue to facilitate decision-making. A focus on individual events and behavior is a guideline to avoid misjudgment. This will eliminate the chances of inking personality with some form of misconduct. Further, each individual’s points of disagreement and agreement are considered to determine the origin of mistakes. Fair and equal actions should be done without favoring any individual. Finally, the conflicts are solved by considering all the effects and consequences.
Conclusion
In summary, project management requires a set of governing rules and policies. The first step in achieving goals includes knowing the specific purpose of engaging in certain activities. Selecting a team comprising members with different roles and responsibilities encourages attaining objectives. Due to cases of differences in opinions, conflicts may occur in the organization. Effective strategies must be applied to solve problems and create a conducive working environment.
