The improvement of people’s standards of living is directly proportional to the growth of science and technology. Nevertheless, though this is a fact, humanity faces so many problems, which include air pollution, environmental degradation, and the hotheaded population increase. Some people have gone ahead to assert that the annihilation of the environment is an unavoidable corollary of economic development. In my understanding, this is a mere pretext for the unawareness of environmental protection. Take for example the manufacturing industry. Hungry manufacturers are busy increasing their profits without taking measures that protect the environment such as recycling waste materials from their factories. On the other hand, the number of people owning private cars doubles each day. As a result, the exhaust fumes and infuriating noise from cars have turned to haunt and hamper the health of populations. From these two examples, it is clear many nations project towards economic emancipation at the expense of people’s health and environmental destruction.
In most cases, many people are not aware of the importance of protecting their environment. Thus, the ignorance of environmental protection leads to environmental degradation. For instance, it worries to see many local governments emphasize economic developments without paying attention to the modalities of conserving the environment. These governments should address the challenge of environmental destruction, in the same manner, they address economic development. Additionally, investors should consider the social benefits that emanate from environmental protections instead of focusing only on how to increase their profits.
Certainly, I do agree with how the latest advances in technology have affected people’s lives. Also, it is undisputable to note how the latest technology has made a revolutionary impact on the world. Through the latest technological advancements, people now have alternatives to doing things for their good. However, in a way, this has led to environmental disturbances, for example, climate change. The latest advances in technology have indeed raised the living standards of many people and aided people with expediency and feasibility. On the other hand, the environment has suffered a blow due to this latest technology. A good example is the emissions emitted from greenhouses, which affect unconstructively the climatic function of the world.
Another human activity that causes environmental degradation is deforestation. People cut trees and sell the products to raise their standards of living. Various parts of the world are increasingly becoming dry due to the abnormal cutting of trees. As a result, this has left many animal species confounded. If people and governments do not take decisive action over deforestation, soon these animal species will disappear from the face of the earth, never to appear shortly. Undoubtedly, globalization has connected people around the world by cross-linking them. However, this has resulted in another grave issue, the global warming effect. Man’s activities on the planet have resulted in global warming effect that now threatens many lives; a matter that so needs global attention.
In conclusion, I do not agree that damage to the environment is the worldwide improvement of standards of living since; environmental conservation can accompany the improvement of living standards minus the depletion of the environment. Without protecting the environment, the raised standards of living will be worthless.
