Morality and ethics are two aspects that have been debated for many years. This is because, despite the development of modern society, problems related to them still arise and attract public attention. Thus, this work aims to study such an ethical dilemma as violence caused by access to weapons. To do this, the article “Illinois governor signs bill banning ‘ghost guns’ amid a rise in gun violence” by N’dea Yancey-Bragg, which was found in the online newspaper USA Today, will be studied. The study of this source will allow us to better understand what attitude is currently formed in the world to armed violence and what measures can be applied to prevent this ethical dilemma.
The teaching of access or locked on the presence of weapons in people for a long time is a reason for discussion. The studied article tells how the Louisiana government passed a legislative act banning ghost guns. The peculiarity of this weapon is that it can be made at home using a 3D printer (Yancey-Bragg, 2022). The ethical dilemma is that the possession of weapons can lead to their misuse against individuals and lead to injuries, murders, and other negative consequences (MacKinnon & Fiala, 2018). On the other hand, the possession of weapons can become a means of self-defense, especially for people living in poor areas with high crime rates.
The main reason was the increased degree of armed violence, which is a severe problem and threat to society. Therefore, a special law was adopted to limit the occurrence of cases of illegal actions against people. This act prohibits the use of weapons that do not have a serial code. The ethical dilemma is that the state still allows guns for private use, which still jeopardizes the welfare of the population.
