Introduction
Determinants of health significantly influence a person’s well-being and health conditions. Each determinant’s impact varies, either positively or negatively, on health and peoples well-being. My personal experience with health determinants reveals how they affected my physical and mental health, and what benefit or harm I got from each determinant. Addressing each determinant’s unique challenges can develop health outcomes and provide access to healthcare services for all.
Main body
Each determinant impacts peoples lives and can improve them or make them harder. Social determinants refer to the various conditions in a person’s environment from birth to old age, including where they live, learn, play, and grow old (Social Determinants of Health, n.d). These conditions can impact a person’s overall health, functioning, and life quality. The article shows the necessity of lecturing on social, cultural, and historical health determinants to improve health outcomes for different communities (Finding Hope, 2008). Each determinant has impacted me differently: financial stress has disrupted sleep patterns and caused anxiety. Prioritizing education positively impacted my health, as I improved my knowledge about health and the factors that negatively influence it. Access to healthcare services has enabled preventive care and addressed health concerns, but limited access to green spaces and healthy food options in urban environments harmed my physical health. Social support has positively impacted my health as I felt like a part of the community and had people with whom I shared the same views, while discrimination and exclusion have had a harmful effect. Health determinants had varied impacts on my life, and it is essential to research them all.
Conclusion
In conclusion, social determinants of health influence a person’s overall well-being and can increase or decrease peoples health. As demonstrated through my experience, each determinant affects individuals differently, with positive and negative influences and various consequences. Moreover, addressing each determinant’s unique challenges is essential to providing equal access to healthcare services and improving health conditions. Lastly, acknowledging and addressing these factors can create a healthier society for everybody.
