Howard Arkley is known to be the follower of “traditions of modernist and abstract art”. The main peculiarity of his art is that he “is widely recognised as the foremost painter of Australian suburbia”2. However, he does not draw the beautiful landscapes of Australia. His works have another direction. His artwork Family home: Suburban exterior can help us to understand the main motif of his work. Representing country house in a bright, striking palette he transfers to the viewer the atmosphere of lightness and airiness, making the viewer to be well disposed towards Australian countryside.
