Introduction
Sometimes people face difficult health choices, especially when it comes to pregnant women. Fetal surgery is a controversial topic in medicine from an ethical point of view. It is a procedure that is undertaken for the unborn child. The main problem is the risk and responsibility that the mother takes on. The purpose of the work is to analyze this issue on the example of two cases indicated in the articles.
The first article
The first article tells about the difficult choice of a mother who had to decide on a complex fetal operation. Boemer’s child had a tumor, and the only chance was to cut it right during pregnancy (Wang, 2016). The main danger was that the baby would have to be pulled out of the womb and then put back in, which was risky. However, the couple agreed to this operation, and it was successful.
The second article
The following article goes into more depth on this issue by analyzing ethical factors. It was found that women, despite the riskiness of some fetal operations, agree with them because they have no other choice (Smajdor, 2011). Thus, the ethical problem arises from the need to make a decision for someone, that is, for the unborn child. However, most of the parents say that they do not even have another option than to risk and try to rescue the child.
Conclusion
To conclude, it is worth mentioning that some strategies were used by writers to persuade the reader. Thereby, the author realistically described the situation of Boemer’s child, representing the emotions of parents. In the second article, the author used a reflective manner of speech in order to better contemplate on the issue.
