PESTEL: Environmental Factors of the Company
The PESTEL analysis is one of the frequently used frameworks with the help of which the external macro-environment of an organization has to be investigated (Braun and Latham 13; Grunig and Kuhn 89). There are five main factors for the analysis in this model, and, in this paper, the environmental factors that could affect the supply chain of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare will be discussed. The aim of the company is to provide all medical devices that could be crucial for the work of clinicians and caregivers, who improve patient care and establish positive outcomes (“Quality & Regulatory”). The connection with the environment cannot be neglected.
One of the main environmental factors that could change the work of the company and create new rules and standards is the idea of global warming and other environmental concerns that could occur at the global level. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, as well as any other medical or technical manufacture, depends on general weather conditions and unpredictable changes a lot. However, it is not the only factor that has to be considered. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare develop a holistic view of sustainability and follows the CEMARS’ requirements to measure greenhouse gas emissions in regards to ISO 14001:2015 (“Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability”). Besides, the company participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project that aims at developing the global disclosure system with the help of which all environmental impacts could be properly managed and introduced. Carbon emissions should be reduced and monitored quarterly with respect to the management systems offered. Safe, healthy, and successful future is what Fisher & Paykel Healthcare strives for, and its environmental campaign and attention to this factor make the company a strong and dangerous competitor for other organizations in this sphere.
Competitive Environment: Extent of Rivalry between Competitors
Fisher & Paykel Healthcare is the company with a number of competitors, including ResMed, Phillips Respironics, and EBOS Healthcare Company. Though Fisher & Paykel Healthcare has already developed a number of successful campaigns and strategies, it is necessary to stay careful and improve its financial indexes. Therefore, it is possible to say that the presence of competitors and real threats make the industry competitive and unpredictable. The competition is characterized by an intense level in case the offered product is relatively standardized, and the number of competitors is usually similar (Berkowitz 76).
At this moment, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare specializes in respiratory devices and has more than 40% of revenue and creates the main competition with ResMed (Walker). Taking into consideration the possible threats the competitors could introduce, the company should continue stabilizing its positions on the market and develop new approaches to compete with other companies in New Zealand. The strategies used by the competitors could demonstrate their true potential and their readiness to compete. Today, neither ResMed nor Respironics stops taking new strategic steps. Therefore, the extent of rivalry between the competitors in the chosen industry is high indeed in terms of the quality of the products, the cooperation with different organizations, and the introduction of appropriate working conditions for all workers and stakeholders involved in the development of the organization. In general, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, as well as the majority of its competitors, are always ready to compete and introduce new ideas and interesting approaches of how to support improvement and innovation in the health care sphere.
