Introduction
George Washington was the first president of the United States of America and significantly contributed to the struggle for independence. He was not only a leader of the nation who skillfully guided people towards their goal of unification in a common state, but also an inventor who helped the fighters for democracy to come to a victory quickly and safely. Thus, the assessment of his actions in the role of a national leader is essential to fully understand how much he contributed to the development and education of the country.
George Washington’s Contributions
George Washington’s activities included multiple aspects, such as political, diplomatic, social, and scientific activities. He was one of the ambassadors at the Congress of the First Continental Congress, which discussed issues important to the United States (Shi 235). Thanks to his presence, the country and the fighting people were able to receive the approval of France and support in military operations, which significantly influenced the outcome of their struggle (Shi 236). Thus, Washington proved to be a skillful and experienced diplomat who defended the interests of his country.
Another critical achievement of Washington is that he led the siege of Boston, and the army under his command was able to force the insolent troops to surrender. One of the mishaps that occurred while Washington was in office was the whiskey tax and the riots that followed. For rural farmers, whiskey could replace the currency (Shi 451). Accordingly, they perceived the new tax as extreme hostility, which resulted in their offering armed resistance to the tax collectors. Then Washington ordered an armed detachment to crush the uprising by force.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it must be said that George Washington significantly impacted the creation of the United States as a state. His ideas and undertakings positively impacted how the country began to develop in the first years of its existence. Thus, due to his skills in diplomacy, science, and military affairs, Washington achieved US independence and began to develop the country. His contribution as the first president is invaluable, and without such leadership, it is impossible to say whether the United States would have been able to gain independence.
