An article titled “Giving Back During National Nurses Week” talks about an initiative that has been put forth by the nurses. It focuses on the selfless want of nurses to give back to the community in any way possible. More specifically, the committee offered nurses to come up with projects that will address issues and matters on how to better the community and treat patients with higher efficiency and quality.
The nursing administration also took an active part in generating donations and “…organization’s philanthropic contribution to the community was $15,000 last year, involved 31 projects, and generated more than 600 hours of volunteer time” (Ramos, 2013).
Salem Hospital and its staff have been very effective in bettering the treatment of the community by increasing their care and availability of the necessary resources, financial help, and mutual cooperation between the staff and the public. Some of the programs include providing clothes to those in need, toys for children and special first aid kits for quick help to patients who could not afford proper medical supplies.
The nurses wanted to make sure that everyone in Oregon received proper treatment outside the hospital and so, they have set up mobile clinics that provide more serious services of attending to the wounds.
The nurses’ and clinicians’ kindness went so far, as to offer own money, clothing and other items that are so needed by the homeless and less fortunate. After taking care of necessities, it was established that many individuals needed dental care and so, two vans were put out for this specific purpose (Ramos, 2013).
It is an interesting fact that at first, people did not believe the care and warmth that the nurses and clinicians were providing. It is understandable because these people lost all hope but after some time, the public and the medical staff have developed a friendly relationship where it was not only the medical treatment that the public received but it was also a friendly person who cared.
This sort of interaction between the staff and patients showed that there are many kindhearted people. The nurses and clinicians were able to experience the needs of the community first hand while the public realized that somebody paid attention to their health and accepted them as human beings. There are other professional and volunteer programs that are constantly developing, improving medical treatment and patient care.
The medical staff has developed very effective procedures in the public sector but has also bettered the internal structure and the organization of the hospital. Volunteering and donations are very much continuing and there are many events that are being organized. An important part of the practice is the education of the public and making sure that people understand the value of prevention.
It is crucial that the nurses and clinicians have attended to people who were unable to come into the hospital and receive their preventative shots. As a result, the staff went out and delivered these shots, so a lot of diseases were stopped by this simple and kind gesture (Ramos, 2013).
It is very respectful and honorable that the medical profession people are taking so much care of their patients and even of people who are not directly present in the hospital. This proves that there are good individuals and they will continue their beneficial acts.
