Hardware and software play a crucial role in our day to day lives. They help an individual and organizations to create data, store and transfer information. This paper identifies hardware and software systems used by individuals and Goodrich Company in general. It also describes how they are used in Goodrich Company (Davenport & Short 2003).

Software refers to the untouchable aspects of information technology. Mostly software exists in form of concepts or ideas. Examples of software include Ms Word, paint, and servers among others. Virtualization software is one of the software systems used by Goodrich Company. This software is purchased from Dell Company. The main aim of the software is to deliver shared information technology services successfully to entire business activities for Goodrich Company in Singapore (Bensaou 2009). Through virtualization software, the deployment of new services takes less than 2 hours which has led to increased efficiency in IT section of the company. Virtualization software has reduced time used in procurement and deployment of new servers. The software has led to improved performance of employees because of reduced downtime. So far the software has no major weaknesses to be mentioned (Bensaou 2009).

Windows Server 2008 Software is majorly used in Goodrich Company. The software has been purchased from Dell Company. The server has added value to the company through improved efficiency and simplified business operations. It ha reduced the costs of operation in the It section. The windows server has also enhanced the efficiency of enterprise by coordinating flow of data in desktop and data center. It is easier and faster to get IT solutions using the server (Bensaou 2009).

Dell PowerEdge servers’ system is a widely used hardware in Goodrich Company. It is purchased from Dell Company. It has several features which include other hardware and software systems. It offers enhanced operation and lowers the total ownership cost. It has helped Goodrich Company to achieve it goal of hared information technology services using one consolidating server by 70% (Davenport & Short 2003). As a result the quality of IT services has improved because they can be easily monitored from a single server. The server is reliable, secure and makes ones experience exciting making it consumer oriented. The system has an effective virtualization which streamlines deployment of servers and simplifies virtual infrastructures. This feature has enhanced business operations in Goodrich. This hardware does not need to be improved in any way (Davenport & Short 2003).

EMC storage area network (SAN) is a hardware system used by Goodrich Company and its employees. It is purchased from Dell. The employees can easily access fast and secure data as a result of improved performance and storage. SAN has a high storage capacity and fast connectivity which allows the employees at Goodrich to store data safely. It also helps them to access multimedia files to repair and maintain their files (Davenport & Short 2003). As a result, the company has registered increase in performance of employees. Other storage facilities include virtual flash which can store data up to 8GB. The virtual card is inserted in Dell PowerEdge servers system and it is easily portable. This hardware has no noticeable weaknesses which may need to be addressed (Davenport & Short 2003).

In conclusion, we need both software and hardware systems to create, use and store data or information. Virtualization and Windows software enhance efficiency creation and sharing of information amongst employees in a company. Storage media helps the company to store and access data (Bensaou 2009).
