In this article, Rachel Wilfall looks into the parameters of links between Shakespearean characters with modern political personalities. Here the fundamental force of argument lies in the context of vengeance and the comparison between Hamlet’s notion of justice and Bush’s intimating activities in form of war against terrorism. This measure in the real world looks out of place in a realistic approach and the totalitarian politics involved appears less practical than Shakespearean characters. In this respect, it is logical to state that the induction of avenging hero in the Bush administration looked void of conviction and in comparison with Hamlet’s action it looked more dramatic in nature. It’s obvious that its strategic objectives are to prevent attacks from within the United States, reduce America’s vulnerability to terrorism, minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur, and prevent attacks from outside. It sets a foundation upon which strategy will be formulated for actions needed to secure the homeland. On the other hand, cooperative security strategy is the international bondage of security measures against militancy and terrorism. However, it cannot be denied that the method appointed is far more dramatic (Wigfall, p. 1).
The article is written from the parameters of anti-war feeling and expresses an essence that war against terrorism is and was unnecessary. In the context of the US, the intelligence community, which gathers information of activities inside the U.S. or other nations, is equally useful in formulating policy matters. In addition, the military, which has to take actions on recommendations of the U.S. government, has to inform the policymakers of their opinion of certain strategic issues or military positions like proximity of offshore military bases in hostile territories (Fletcher, pp. 23-4). However, Collective security is based on internal formulation security measures where the different departments work together to sustain the security of the nation. This is necessary and the author is quite aligned with the defense parameters but condemns the mode of attacking tactics taken by the jingoistic Bush government. Under this parameter, different nations join hands and exchange information and mechanisms in order to instrument the security measures. At the moment, the UK, Australia, India, and Sweden, among others, are working on the parameters of cooperative security strategy in the fight against terrorism (Kar, p. 377). However, on a personal note, it can be stated that it is not totally agreeable in the parameters of security. If prevention is better than cure then, the actions of Bush, no matter how dramatic, was a necessary evil.
