The consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the apparent global warming remain the major issues plaguing global society. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has an opportunity to assist global leaders by sharing information, technologies, and agreements of support for the accepted initiatives. Being an economic leader in the Gulf region, our country has a unique position that can help secure safety not only for our residents but to extend these benefits to neighboring countries. As the president of the UAE, it is my duty to ensure that the world has a sustainable path forward. In this article, I would like to share my vision not only of a suitable response but of measures to prevent future healthcare and climate disasters.
Nowadays, In order to achieve the goals for priority issues, it is essential to promote cooperation among leaders, and the UAE has the tools that can assist with the situation on a global scale. Our country’s response to the pandemic has been a challenge to the healthcare system, yet the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) provided immense support in reducing the impact of the virus outbreak. We have developed a reliable emergency response mechanism that can help with similar situations in future crises. As improving the global health architecture is one of the summit’s goals, the UAE is willing to provide blueprints for efficient defensive structures against global pandemics. Moreover, financial support plans for assisting developing countries with preventing a virus spread can be achieved through this summit to promote appropriate societal and governmental responses.
Under my presidency, the key challenges will be addressed through equitable resource and knowledge distribution and policies that prioritize people’s health and combat climate change as a primary factor for deteriorating quality of life. The UAE has the opportunity to promote decisive actions among other Gulf countries through exemplary policymaking decisions and sharing innovative technologies that resolve global issues. The renewable energy challenge posed by the Bali summit can be addressed by the UAE through developing and promoting policies requiring clean sources or carbon dioxide capture mechanisms to be incorporated into countries’ power grids. The NCEMA can assist with publishing a guideline based on its extensive experience from the recent virus outbreak that can further extend the UAE’s contribution to the challenges countries face.
Without addressing the issue of global warming, the United Arab Emirates will continue to experience the loss of habitat and damage to its infrastructure. These issues will significantly damage the quality of life in the country. A common path toward zero emissions has to be established and strictly followed, as the current worldwide droughts already serve as a dire reminder of our planet’s future. The UAE can assist G20 with developing and expanding renewable energy sources through its multitude of research institutes and through investments in companies that follow green energy policies. Our current efforts in capturing carbon dioxide from fossil fuel emissions near plants have led to a significant mitigating effect. Sharing this technology should alleviate a major portion of emissions from coal and gas energy sources.
With the economic advantage gained in the past, our country will be able to reach the goal of zero emissions within 30 years while also supporting developing nations. Financial support to our neighboring countries in the Gulf region can significantly improve their healthcare systems, as well as ensure that access to clean water is not damaged due to climate change. Optimization of land use is critical to the summit’s goals as well as its opportunities to promote sustainable practices. In the UAE, desalination lies at the center of its agricultural needs, and our technology can assist developing countries with alleviating climate change consequences.
In conclusion, access to healthcare services is significantly hindered for many people across the globe, and economic leaders must assist lagging countries with keeping their residents at the best possible quality of life. Global cooperation can lead to significant changes in underdeveloped regions that suffer many consequences of the current crises without having the necessary tools to contribute to critical causes. Delivering modern technologies will help other countries in the Gulf region to achieve a higher standard of living and significantly improve their economic growth in the long term.
