Health education is very important in improving the health of individuals as well as communities. Secondary education is the formal education that is given during adolescence. The students should be given health education in their adolescence period. Health education is defined as “methods used to inform people about health issues and to persuade and enable them to adopt lifestyles that the educators believe will improve health and to reject habits regarded as harmful to health.” (Health Education 2009). The main purpose of health education at the secondary education level is to give common knowledge, mold the students for their higher education, and also to make them aware of the various health problems and how to prevent and what all precautions have to be taken.
What people and/or experiences have helped shape your views on learning and growth?
Some people and experiences help us a lot in shaping our views on learning and growth. There is nothing to substitute education. The money can be stolen by others but the learning or knowledge that we gain can never be stolen by others. Whatever we observe from our surroundings is considered as learning. Our inspiration towards learning and growth is influenced by many factors such as people, situations, experience, etc. In our daily life, we come across many problems and situations. When we face any problem we find ways to overcome it; so there we are learning how to solve it. If such a problem arises in the future we will be confident to handle that problem.
What draws you to teaching?
Teaching is a process of delivering knowledge to those persons who need it. It must be delivered to the right persons in the right place at the right time. In my early days, I had realized that I can teach and I was very much attracted to the teaching profession. And I felt I can do well in the field of teaching. Teaching is not an easy task. Just lecturing is not teaching. We should make sure that whatever we have taught is very clear to the students and it will help them in their life.
As a teacher, what will you value most and why?
As a teacher, I believe in taking special care to make my classroom festive, comfortable, and friendly. I also believe that the success of a student depends upon the involvement of parents in the student’s life. Teaching is not confined to lecturing but a teacher has to make sure that it has reached the students in the way they need it. As a teacher, I give more value to certain aspects such as involvement of parents, student motivation, interactive classroom sessions, healthy student-teacher relationships, and teacher enthusiasm. The teacher is responsible not only to give subject knowledge but also to equip the students to face the challenges that may arise in their future life.
If there are any aspects of your background that would indicate leadership skills or contribute to the desired diversity of our program, please indicate.
A teacher should possess leadership skills. The teacher leads his/her students to follow the right path whereby they can achieve success in their life. As a teacher, I give more importance to my values which help others. I initiated a social awareness class in my society regarding the precautions that must be taken to prevent infectious diseases which are spreading worldwide.
