Evaluating Care for Vulnerable Populations
Community health problems require a thorough review and focused treatment to improve the well-being of the vulnerable population. This paper investigates the use of resources to identify a large vulnerable population community health issue. Greenfield City, a city in the United States, was chosen as the site for this study. In this community, resources have not been successfully allocated to combat such health problems in vulnerable populations as obesity, nicotine, and alcohol addiction.
Recourse Effectiveness
Adult Women & Men
In Greenfield City, such an indicator as the duration of treatment for adult women and men significantly exceeds the standard. It does not meet the norm due to the widespread prevalence of obesity in this vulnerable population. Among adult women and men in Greenfield City, the characteristics of incoming patients are associated with the course of the underlying disease, age, the presence of concomitant diseases, complications that arose during diagnosis or treatment directly in the hospital (Scott Allen Creative, 2023). For this reason, this group of vulnerable populations requires longer treatment, and the distribution of medical resources is ineffective.
Older Adults
Alcohol addiction is widespread among older adults in Greenfield City. Therefore, this population group often has problems with the liver, gastrointestinal tract, teeth, and other characteristic diseases caused by alcohol abuse (Scott Allen Creative, 2023). At the same time, there is a lack of technologies or resources in medical institutions that allow for the timely provision of proper quality medical care. This is because in Greenfield City, there is a lack of modern equipment and medicines, and a low level of staffing with specialist doctors who specialize in the disease profile of older patients (Nitsche, 2023). Therefore, it can be argued that medical resources for older patients are distributed inefficiently.
People with Disabilities & Chronic Illnesses
Among the people with disabilities and chronic illnesses in Greenfield City, many have drug addiction. At the same time, there are violations in routing patients and a lack of continuity in the provision of medical care. Often, there is an appointment in the hospital or studies that duplicate studies conducted in outpatient settings (Scott Allen Creative, 2023). In addition, there is an untimely transportation of patients with disabilities and chronic illnesses to the specialized department of the hospital due to insufficient diagnosis or incorrectly chosen treatment tactics at the previous stage of medical care (Nitsche, 2023). All this, as well as in the case of other vulnerable groups in Greenfield City, allows us to conclude that allocating medical resources is ineffective.
Room for Improvement: Obesity, Tobacco & Alcohol Abuse
In the case of addictions and obesity, it will be most effective to prevent the appearance of health problems in vulnerable groups of the population caused by them. To combat this serious problem, Greenfield City needs to pay a lot of attention to promoting a healthy lifestyle. To do this, medical resources should be directed to spreading information about the dangers of addictions and improving the quality of life and life expectancy of people who do not have them. Thus, it will be possible to increase the efficiency of the distribution of medical resources to prevent the spread of addictions among the vulnerable population. This will avoid the need to attract even more medical personnel when diseases occur.
