Identified Problems and Weak Points
These statistics reveal that there are severe issues with healthcare access in Brooks County, Texas. The location is among the least healthy areas in the state due to economic problems affecting the residents (Community Action Corporation of South Texas, 2020). As seen in Table 1 and Table 2, despite the trends that indicate a slight increase in the overall well-being of the county’s population, it lags significantly behind the state and the country. While the gap in premature deaths between individuals with different ethnicities is lower than the national average, the overall situation is drastically worse (“Overview of Brooks County, TX,” n.d.). It appears that the economic conditions and the lack of hospitals within the area affect the entirety of the Brooks residents in an equal manner.
Furthermore, the local population is less vaccinated against the flu than people in the state and the country by a significant margin (“Overview of Brooks County, TX,” n.d.). Therefore, it is necessary to create a program that can assist the local citizens with preventing disease spread. These findings deserve the state’s attention due to an unreasonable burden on Brooks’ residents’ well-being stemming from the lack of healthcare access.
