Introduction
To gain a better perspective of the healthcare policy and regulations within the organization, an interview with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) was conducted. According to the CNO, the organization is explicitly dependent on the healthcare policies and regulatory guidelines implemented in the community. Every policy or reimbursement regulation contains a performance and measurement indicator that promotes a unified action protocol for the staff. The example presented by the interviewee was the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP). Indeed, under the HRRP provisions, there are at least six conditions with a high readmission risk that require additional care and safety protocol (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2021). Thus, compliance with the public health regulations directly supervises procedures within the hospital setting.
Discussion
Undeniably, healthcare policies and regulations are aimed at reducing expenses for the health care provider and the patient. For example, the said HRRP oversees the readmission risks because these incidents constitute a major part of the organization’s budget. Thus, in order to properly manage financial variables, procedures and regulations develop a roadmap for minimizing the risk and hospital expenses per patient. Every instance of hospitalization implies additional budgetary expenses on readmission prevention, as these costs are lower than a recurring hospitalization of the patient.
The primary goal of public interventions is the promotion of non-discriminatory and non-abusive standards of health care. Some private for-profit hospitals encourage readmission to charge extra for the additional services, so the introduction of the policies like HRRP secures equal national objective to minimize the operating costs of the medical services, allocating the expenses between public education and prevention initiatives (Lagasse, 2018).
Conclusion
The adoption of reimbursement guidelines and healthcare policies, including governmental initiatives like Medicaid and Medicare, encourage equal service delivery to social groups regardless of their socio-economic status.
