Role women played in the abolitionist movement
Abolitionism was a movement that encountered widespread in the late 18th century that had its roots in America and Western Europe at a period when the slave trade was at its peak, the movement was aimed at stopping the trade and setting the slaves free.
Mr. Douglas was right in his statement, as the women construct the larger part of the population; he was saying this after viewing the great contributions the women have always had contributed in issues that affect the society in general, despite his statement the women have contributed a lot in the struggle for the independence of the slaves as this movement later transpired into the fight for the independence of the united states of America.
Women played a major role in the Abolitionism movement, many women were opposed to the slave trade as they thought that this was against the rights of slaves, many incidents were recorded of women who pioneered the rights of the black slaves, and Harriet Tubman was one woman who pioneered towards the movement she was a black, religious, abolitionist, who was able to escape from slavery at a very tender age and came back to rescue her family that lived in slavery by initiating an escape from slavery, she is said to have a riffle which she used to protect the escapees and also to keep the slaves from going back to the escaped land (Blackmon’s, 1999).
The women also played a key role in the free in the Abolitionism movement, when they helped to talk their male counterparts into cooling down their ill-treatment of their slaves, the men especially the white’s who thought that they were superior and by this, they saw that it was their rights to treat the slaves in an ill way, the white women in conjunction with the women slaves formed a bond that strengthened their relationship and the white women found out that the black women were human and required to be treated better, this in result helped in the liberation of the slaves (McKay, 2009).
Comparison of emigration of Americans into Texas and Oregon
The Europeans who were exploring the world found the undeveloped land in America and as a result of this they started to cultivate on the land that was bare, they started to make use of the idle land, but with the discovery of gold in California resulted to the invasion of American merchants into the area that was initially in Mexico in the late 1830s (McKay, 2009).
The gold rush that was initially being experienced in California prompted the Americans into acquiring the land from Mexico through the great American- Mexican war that lead to Mexico giving Texas and California to America while the Oregon country was a plan by the Americans to expand their territory on the northern part that extends closer to Canada (Nathaniel, 1921).
Supreme Court ruling in the Dred Scott case
Dred Scott was a black slave in America in 1857; he filed a case court that would help him find freedom for himself and his family, he stated that he never liked the way he was being treated as a property, the jury came up with a ruling that made Mr. Scott a free man as he had moved to a state that never recognized, this ruling raised eyebrows as either judge that were against slavery advocated for the abolishment of the slave trade in the entire country.
