Apart from the attempt to explain the mysterious and shocking themes described in the horror movie, people often watch these films to escape from reality for a while (Southern n. p.). What is more frightening is that the situations described in the movie often resemble the events from real life.

They are often thrilled by such situations and, in such a way, they might identify themselves with the movie heroes (Pappas n. p.). Taking horror movies seriously, however, may have negative consequences for people, particularly for their moral and psychological wellbeing. Nevertheless, they still keep watching horror movies because they help them forget about their real problems.

In conclusion, modern horror movies are popular nowadays because they allow people to get excited and scared. Watching horror movies provides the audience with intense experience and negative emotions that are much stronger than the positive ones.

Second, many theorists propose that abhorrent scenes from horror movies allow individuals to detach from reality and enter the world of supernatural creatures, such as vampires, zombies, and other monsters. Finally, modern horror movies attract people by its exclusive special effects that make them experience sharp feelings and emotions. All these components make horror movies particularly popular among the teenagers who are also searching for instance emotions.
