The detailed information acquired in the process of analyzing the impact of technology on an event has forced me to take a broader view of the world. In everyday life, it is not constantly possible to pay attention to the details of television’s influence: usually, most people are busy with other activities and routines. By examining the topic in detail, it becomes apparent how television broadcasting contributes to changing viewers’ perceptions.
Through the critical analysis, I realized that my perception of the world includes the belief that the world is changing for the worse. The further the development of television, the greater the level of digital literacy and intelligence required to verify the correctness and relevance of the data (Livingstone, 2019). Indeed, the abundance of misinformation that is available in the digital world is unfortunate.
The thorough analysis of television as a technology on the list of influencing actors on the January 6th Capitol Insurrection made my use of television diminish drastically. Moreover, the prejudices that have been formed have made me more cautious about any important media information. Similarly, I now try to stay away from all sources associated with spreading insurrection and election fraud ideology, such as Fox News.
Those biases, which are formed based on a real contemporary problem, can influence the ways and methods people receive news in the future. Furthermore, distrust of television can cause a person to stop trusting other sources of information, which can lead to negative consequences (Livingstone, 2019). Such disrespect for their own viewers, as has been shown by pro-government news sources in indoctrinating them with ideas about insurrection, only serves to society divide, distrust of the people, and the development of various conspiracy theories.
Considering my field of study, IT concentration, the topic of the research, its findings, and its awareness are relevant. All media corporations, including Fox News, are actively moving into the space of the Internet and continue to broadcast. Therefore, the development of each person’s digital literacy in parallel with the development of technology is essential. It is impossible to conclude about a particular situation without discovering the influence of any media technology on the gullibility of various social groups, and this influence facilitates manipulation. I will face this issue more than once in my field, as it is a problem in a digitally evolving society.
