Introduction
The great world traditions are united in upholding compassion, justice, a commitment to peace, and concern for everyone, including those with whom we do not share beliefs, such as Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Jewish people. In today’s world, there are terrible divisions. If religious leaders do not reach across divides to recover a strong appreciation for a common core, healing the terrible divisions in the 21st century will be difficult.
Role of the World’s Major Religions in Creating the Modern Turmoil
Major religions have never condoned or encouraged killing. However, these religions were founded during violent periods; hence, their scriptures contain references to warfare and aggression. Historically, religion has become a significant issue in a given region when warfare is endemic. This was evident in eleventh-century Europe during the First Crusade (Rowe, 2016). When warfare is an everyday occurrence, it affects people’s dreams, ambitions, and faith, especially if they feel they have nothing to lose and no faith in political processes.
Secondly, in the mid-20th century, secularism emerged as a dominant ideology, and religion’s significant role in world events declined. In all the religions, aggressive political piety was developed that drags God/religion to the center stage of modern secular society to the center stage. In most secularized societies that have separated society and religion, religious and cultural movements have emerged, displaying disappointment with the civilized culture (Rowe, 2016). Every individual all over the world has demonstrated that there is an essence in representing religion in public life
Lastly, most world religions have studied all their respective fundamentalisms. Most of them are rooted in the fear of annihilation that modern society aims to wipe out the true faith of believers. The fundamentalists think that they are fighting for everyone and, hence, tend to lash out violently. Moreover, modernity has privileged some others. For instance, enslaved Africans, Jews of Europe, and Native Americans are casualties of modernity (National Archives, 2022). Some have felt violated by secularism, which seems lethal and inimical to their faith.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the great world religions of Christianity, Hinduism, Muslims, Buddhism, and Judaism have contributed to creating turmoil in today’s world. In every religion, a forceful form of political devotion emerged, pulling God and religion from the margins of modern secular life to the forefront. This led to a decline in the role of religion in world events. All the fundamentalisms that have been studied in the world’s major religions believe that they are fighting for survival and, hence, tend to lash out violently.
