The humanities are, first of all, knowledge about a person, their personality, character, and features. Humanities study a person from the point of view of his spiritual, cultural, moral, social, and mental sphere. Although humanities are primarily theoretical, this theoretical knowledge is a necessary basis in social fields, in particular, to understand how exactly what happened affected a person’s life and a person affected events.
An HR manager’s job involves various activities, including hiring new employees, helping with onboarding and motivating employees, and developing a corporate culture. It is necessary to find an individual approach and provide a comfortable working atmosphere for each employee. At the same time, everyone must work harmoniously to achieve one goal. Therefore, the humanities in the field of HR are of great importance. For example, when recruiting for a position, an HR manager can assess how well the candidate fits into the company’s corporate culture. Knowledge in the humanities allows you to understand how the candidate can bring value to the company and whether his personal experience will not confront the corporate culture. It helps to weed out unsuitable candidates at an early stage.
The humanities include many branches, each of which helps the HR manager to understand employees better. According to the National Humanities Center, “the humanities help us understand and interpret the human experience, as individuals and societies” (para. 2). In addition, the most critical areas of the humanities are the study of culture and religion. A qualified HR manager must understand the cultural characteristics of each employee to avoid misunderstandings or discrimination in the team. Moreover, when developing a company’s corporate culture, it is crucial to consider the possible cultural diversity of employees and avoid confrontations between corporate and personal cultures.
