In my paper, I will focus on in-house accommodation for the middle and secondary grades. First I advocate that efforts should make in schools to accommodate gifted children, the reason for this being that each kid has the right to be encouraged and supported to attain his or her full potential. Both the gifted and the average child are justified to learn a new thing every day; this is the principal importance of sending any kid to school. It would be unfair to deny a gifted child a chance to use his or her brains to handle more complex information and come up with opinions. This will be retarding the development of the gifted child (Gilman 27).
These are some of the accommodation programs that should be developed in the middle and secondary grades of education: The schools should come with a program to group the gifted students together. This will encourage the creation of these students; this program will enable more interaction between the gifted students which will enable their mental growth and development. The schools should not group gifted students with the average students because this will affect their performance.
The accommodation program should encourage children to conduct private studies and investigations. This will help them to explore new concepts and give them higher understanding. The teachers should encourage the children to have creative thinking and expression, this will enable students to choose how to approach a given academic problem (National association for gifted students 4).
The program should expand the time spent in free reading, this will allow the children to explore new areas of knowledge as well as develop interest in diversified areas in academics. The students should be allowed the freedom to make choices in what they want to, this will help them to realize their goals. This will also give children an opportunity to be focused on achieving a certain goal in academics.
The accommodation program should be developed in such a manner that the children participate in outlining the task to be performed and the evaluation technique. This active participation will give children freedom to develop their capabilities in different areas of academics. The teachers should assess the gifted students before the start of each topic, this will enable them to gauge what these children already know and this will help teachers handle them appropriately.
The schools should be provided with learning materials in wide range of subjects and levels. This will enable the gifted students to explore different areas of interest and also encourage their brains to handle more complex tasks from higher levels of studies. They should also create an environment where ideas are accepted without being criticized and this will encourage creativity among the children.
The schools should be provided with a rich learning environment where a wide range of resources are available such as media and another method of learning that will encourage brain growth and development. This should also be accompanied by introduction of learning centers where children can conduct their independent studies.
The research may advocate for the creation of different schools for the gifted children. It may show the importance of handling the gifted children in a different environment from the average child. The research in addition may advocate for special teachers to be trained to deal with the gifted students in their schools. This will be accompanied by the development of special curriculum for gifted children (Shea 4).
