As a nurse, one is usually faced with a variety of situations which is either interesting or not; where one is required to develop a system to accommodate the varied kinds of behaviors from their clients. More precisely, being a nurse one should be in a position to understand various individuals’ behaviors and help them; even though some may possess anti-social behaviors.
From my case with Job; his behavior was quite challenging as he was not cooperative in giving out information regarding their state of health. As it happened, Job’s behavior of not being ready to expose his problems to me as a nurse was quite a challenging situation; especially considering the fact that for any health practitioner to help him they should be well versant with the ailment a patient is suffering from. From this perspective, therefore, Job’s behavior was challenging to me because I would not be able to know how to help him; based on the reason that any practitioner would not be capable of knowing the therapy to be used on him.
Further, as it happens one of the worst things discouraged during the provision of health services is the inability of the voluntary information from a patient; as this helps the nurse in making the choice of the therapy to be administered to the client with regard to their medical history. From my interaction with Job, he kept challenging me as he showed no interest in the services that I was offering him; which made me feel greatly discouraged.
Another behavior that was seriously challenging me as the nurse in charge of Job; was his negligence to the advice I was giving him so that he could be of help in improving his state of health. Additionally, as it has been revealed, Job often became bored and non-interested in the conversation I had with him as well as with other officers during the course of being given advice on how to improve his health status.
Based on the fact that health care service provision is a very passionate profession; in the cases where individuals are at a closer interaction with the health care professionals, the administration becomes simpler. However, during my interaction with Job, the disregard and negative behavior towards the nurses during conversations and care administration adversely affected his welfare.
However, such behavior as observed in Job’s case can be prevented in a number of ways so as not to affect my level of efficiency within the administration of health care services. For instance, the moment I learned that Job was anti-social; I resulted to engaging him in the conversation of other issues not related to his state of health; as a move to help recognize the issues surrounding his unfavorable behavior. Additionally, the practice of engaging clients in conversations outside their state of health further helps in consoling disturbed patients, which is helpful in making them feel closer and open to the nurses which highly improves their response to medication.
More so, while giving advice to the sick a nurse is supposed to first develop a strategy for explaining the impacts of the different practices to be discouraged before giving advice to their clients. This is the case because by so doing, the nurses will draw the attention of the clients by explaining to them the implications of the given practice, which additionally yields to attentiveness within the clients.
In summary, as it has been observed from different health centers health personnel face different challenges; which in the long run affect their efficiency during their carrying out of their respective duties. Further, these challenges are in most cases caused by the different patients; due to their varied physical and psychological problems which they consequently blame on the people, they interact with.
