During the interview, it was possible to obtain a large amount of information about the respondent’s attitudes to health and food. Hence, the person replied that he defines health as the well-being of the body, in which an individual does not have any significant deviations and which provides a full-fledged quality of life. This definition is quite close to what is meant by welfare in various sources. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (n.d.) states that “it is a resource that allows people to realize their aspirations, satisfy their needs and to cope with the environment in order to live a long, productive, and fruitful life” (para. 5). The respondent also focused on the fact that for him health has gained great value in a more mature age. This is due to greater exposure to various sources of information and interest in diets.
Thus, the interview process smoothly moved on to discussing the concept of healthy eating. The respondent stressed that he still does not have a clear definition for this phenomenon since, in his youth, he was influenced by fashion and generally accepted concepts that a healthy diet is equated with a diet. However, he stressed that at the moment, a healthy diet for him is maintaining a balance between essential vitamins and nutrients while excluding any restrictions regarding “unhealthy” food. I think that this view of the concept of healthy eating is due to the cultural background and experience of the individual (Beresford, 2023). Therefore, there may be a significant influence on the culture of diets, as noted by the respondent himself. This term “refers to a set of beliefs that values thinness, appearance, and shape above health & well-being” (Daryanani, 2021, para. 1). Thus, the influence of social networks in modern society has played a role in shaping understanding of this aspect.
I have little experience in conducting interviews, which was a small obstacle for me when performing this task. This is due to the fact that I had to conduct a fairly extensive study on the selected topic, which was carefully prepared for the procedure. Moreover, I needed to put the questions in such a way as to achieve the most complete and satisfactory answers. I can say that the interview went well enough, meaning that the respondent answered each question in a detailed and informative manner. However, it is important to note that I had to revise my questions several times and adjust them to make them more consistent with the goals set.
The aspect that I would have done differently would have been the choice of the respondent. Perhaps I would have picked up a person who was not my acquaintance since, at the same time, the proper level of professionalism would have been preserved since an interview with a friend often left the main point. In addition, it would be interesting for me to conduct an interview with an older person, about 50-60 years old, since this type of respondent can reflect on those trends regarding health and food that were many years ago. Moreover, they would provide a unique look at how this topic has changed over time in society. I would not change the interview procedure regarding follow-up questions since, in this case, it is possible to deviate from the main topic.
