Prophecies Fulfilled in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ
The book of Isaiah is filled with promises and hopes for God’s people. It prophesies the coming of justice and peace realized in the person of Jesus Christ. In his prophecies, Isaiah foretold much about the coming of Jesus Christ. For example, he says that Jesus will be produced from the Davidic family and work miracles (Isaiah 11:1-3).
Isaiah also predicted that Jesus would bring light and truth to the whole world (Isaiah 42:1-4). He foretold that Jesus would be shamed and bear our sins (Isaiah 53:1-10). These prophecies are a hope for God’s people, pointing to the person and work of Jesus Christ.
The Promised Hope for God’s People in Isaiah
The hope for God’s people in the book of Isaiah emphasizes the mission of Jesus Christ as the redeemer of sins. The prophecy of Isaiah 53:1-10 says, “Who has believed our word? And the hand of the Lord will find greatness upon him” (Stoliker, 2019). This passage underscores Jesus’ debt to God imposed upon him at his coming. Jesus brought fairness and God’s mercy. Thus, Isaiah prophesied the coming of Jesus, who would originate from the Davidic family and perform miracles. Jesus would also bring light and truth to the entire world, bear our sins, and bring the justice and mercy of God to the whole world.
