In his presentation at TED talk, James Veitch shares his hilarious experience of communicating with spammers. His speech, gestures, and visual aids are entertaining and grasp the audience’s attention. James’ speech is very effective and memorable.

The most amusing thing about the speech is James’ verbal techniques. He uses various intonation patterns, applies pauses to keep the listeners in suspense, and makes his presentation very animated and colorful.

The speaker’s non-verbal communication is vigorous and adds up to his tone in the way of getting the listeners excited about what he has to say. He accompanies his presentation with a lot of gestures, and he keeps visual contact with the audience all of the time. He does not let anyone stay indifferent or bored. Moreover, he adds up an amusing funny detail – a photo of him as a child and a current picture showing how he fights with boredom and annoyance.

James’ written skills are revealed through preparing his speech and through the pieces of emails he presented during his presentation. His writing manner is accurate and filled with figures of speech which create an overall comic impression. James employs a lot of irony in his writing, producing an effect of laughter and making the audience sympathize with the main points of his speech. When communicating with the spammers, James writes short messages filled with ironic content which they fail to understand. And their failure makes the situation even more comic.

James makes three key points in his presentation. Firstly, when the person is bored, he/she seeks ways to entertain himself. Secondly, when the person’s right for being undisturbed is violated, one needs to fight for getting that right back. Finally, when one does something instead of just accepting the unpleasant situation, this situation will eventually be resolved. The speech was exciting and cheerful, and it described in a humorous way how to deal with the annoying things in our lives.

Subject: this email contains no sham or spam – here’s a just fan to say you’re cool, man!

Hi, James!

As I was listening to your presentation yesterday, I could not but laugh. You made the annoying spam situation look hilarious once it has been taken proper care of. I thoroughly enjoyed your speech! Just like every other person in the audience – no one remained distracted. The photo detail was so comical – it shows that you remained just the same little boy fighting with tedious and frustrating situations. Only you found even better ways to fight, and you are sharing them with so many people through your presentations and books.

I know you are busy, so this is just a short message to express my gratitude for an entertaining evening and the food for thought. It never occurred to me that there can be a way to protect myself from these aggravating messages. I enjoyed your presentation. You grasped my attention and held it throughout the whole speech. I think I will buy some of your books because I am sure they are cool.

All in all, you are my hero! You made it clear that life is too short to let anything steal my precious time. Thank you once again and good luck in your career!

Best regards,
